I spent almost $3000 to take the L-5 to KOSH last year. I also gave a talk in the main museum about the 14th Liaison Squadron in WWII, helping the vets having their last reunion there to tell their story. KOSH was very impressive, and I'm glad I did it, but it strikes me that the cost of bringing an airplane and making a show is worth a few wristbands- EAA will get a piece of everything else that is sold to the people. I don't blame Eric for not attending. Eric's paying enough as it is (especially since he now subsidizes Mike Rawson's beer bill) and I don't think asking for a bit more is outlandish. Perhaps the EAA should consider a "# of cylinder banks" rider for a few extra wristbands per cyinder bank?

Well, Eric it's been fun. I can't beleive that I almost thought you might consider someone else's feelings and opinions as valid. I forgot that you were way above me looking down. And for the record, my car is not a clone car, but a real one. I'm sure that the General Lee does not have enough class to fit in at Sturgis. :roll:

This isn't about wristbands and I don't think it ever truly was. If it was, Eric would accept my offer of giving him my own personal wristbands for his extra passengers and that would be that. I am an EAA employee offering Eric the extra passes he needs. In essence, I am representing EAA and trying to rectify the stated problem in the very first post of this thread. Now it has degenerated into a bash/defend EAA thread and as Eric has said himself, enough is enough...

Nothing against your offer, but I do think that it's about the wristbands. It shouldn't take an EAA employee or volunteer, or other attendee to get him the extra wristbands. It should be a consideration of the planning and organizing staff who are responsible for this. If EAA Warbirds are having to purchase the wristbands from EAA HQ and have to restrict like they do, then there is something fundamentally off - EAA HQ is signalling to EAA Warbirds and warbird owners that they don't think they are an important part of the show. If they did, they'd provide EAA Warbirds with as many wristbands as were needed. This is what Eric (and many others) have a problem with. Warbirds are as significant a part of EAA as the RV's and other kitplanes that show up and are the part of the EAA that can (and should) be the biggest ambassadors for what the EAA is as it's the Warbirds that get out on the airshow circuit and do shows. EAA apparently recognizes somewhere as an orginization that Warbirds are important or else they wouldn't be operating Aluminum Overcast.

I think Oshkosh is great on many levels, but it seems to me that the way they treat the warbirds, especially those warbirds who's owners are EAA members as well, it's almost like they don't want them to be the ambassadors, just another faceless number in the crowd, and I don't understand that thinking.

I HAVE A SOLUTION!!! I can't wait to get to OSK in my '6. I can't wait to see Mark Tischler, VadeBonCoeur, Dave Young, Frank Arrufat, Tim Savage, Mark Clark, Rozendaal, Butch, John Lane, and the rest. I can't wait to support a group that's strongly dedicated to my interests. I can't wait to be part of an event that honors our heroes. Sure I'm gonna have to buy a wristband for Vic and the kid that loses the coin toss and doesn't get to ride up, but I get to camp with Oder! THE SOLUTION is the establishment of a fund to purchase wristbands for warbird owners who are offended by the practice, that they may go to Oshkosh, and hopefully enjoy themselves. I pledge $21.00 (1 day pass) to the fund.

I tried to lighten the subject but will ask one serious question: Does anyone else get a wrist band for attending? If I bring my RV-7 do I get one? My passenger? I fly in in a 172? Does Sean Tucker get one? Two?If I bring in a C-47? Not trying to be a smart ass, but having never been there I really don't know.

I know that the R4D doesn't get anything, but I think part of that is it's certified as a "Standard" aircraft, not "Experimental". I think the same holds for aircraft under "Restricted" certificates, but I'm not certain. I think the other part is invited versus attending.

If the R4D parks in the Warbird area they would get four wristbands. Two per engine. Just like all the rest of the DC-3s and C-47s that park in the area. As far as I know if you park anyplace else on the field you would pay for your own bands.

I really did appreciate your offer of the wristband (BTW, what I had asked for was 1 additional wristband for my crew chief, not 4 more, as several posted), I didn't think seriously about taking you up on your offer because I didn't realize you were an EAA employee, I just thought you were some kind-hearted soul (which you probably are) who was offering to buy me something I can clearly afford. You are right about one thing, this is not about money, if you can assure me that they will only go to disadvantaged children (and not T6 owners who act like children), I will buy 10 wristbands per day for the whole deal. PM me if you want to arrange this. You can distribute them as you see fit. We need more kids interested in warbirds, always.

I never really thought about bringing the T6 (also 2 wristbands) because there are usually tons of them there, and I doubt that anyone really cares about bringing another one.

Whether your car is a clone or not really doesn't interest me. This is the wrong forum to discuss automobiles. You could however sell it and buy a warbird with the proceeds, L-4's (2 wristbands) are awesome, but if you want the most bang for your "General Lee" buck, I would suggest the Cessna UC-78 "Bobcat" it sips gas and it's worth 4 wristbands. I must also highly advise against the EA-1E Skyraider, total gas hog and only worth the same 2 wristbands as the L-4. :D :shock:

Eric, two solutions: First, I'll buy you the darn wristband if you bring Daisy Mae with you in one of those 6 seats. And its got to be vintage Daisey, Ms, Bach, no modern substitutes, just like real warbirds. By the way, what did they use all those seats for in combat?

Otherwise, you could fly in, camp there, never leave the grounds and you don't need no stinking wristbands.

And as for having too many T-6s, one thing is for sure, they never have too many Yale's.
