Big WWII 60th Ann. Airshow Events

Thu Feb 03, 2005 3:20 pm

Hi All,

Please forgive the length of the following ramble.

I'm curious if any of our posting/lurking flyable warbird owners have been discussing any planned major gatherings. Allow me to explain.

In either '91 or '92 (sad I can't remember, isn't it?) I had the chance to fly up to OSH with the Fifi/Diamond Lil bunch. At the end of their stay, they vowed never to return to Airventure--not because it was a bad event, but because they can't reap the money there necessary to keep these two aircraft flying. The one exception, of course, was when they attended OSH in 1995.

For those who attended OSH in 1995, you might remember the weekend mass formation flyovers of 150+ warbirds. I don't know what it was like for the flying participants, but from the ground I simply had to set the camcorder down and watch (admittedly a bit misty-eyed) an event that my brain was telling me would never be repeated again.

Now, ten years later, Fifi & Diamond Lil are planning to attend again; And so back to my original question...

Are special efforts in the works to bring an exceptional number of warbirds to Airventure (or any other airshow) for marking the 60th Anniversary of VE & VJ days?
