I found this picture on the 384thBG website...I've never seen a hack like this painted and all. Plus how many A-35's were in the ETO?

The 359th FG had a A-35 target tow squadron attached commanded by a XRAF pilot named Ron Wallace.

Great pics, everybody! I've always thought the Vengeance was a cool looking aircraft. It looks fairly bland from the side, but from above, that "double cranked" wing looks wicked! 8)

Love those big, heavy Vultee dive bombers - like the Brewster SB2A, they sure look tough, even if they weren't all that successful with the U.S. armed forces. Hope one flies again someday!

The Vengeance was quite a successful dive bomber and was used operationally by the RAF and the RAAF in the Far East. Unfortunatly only one complete example has survived and is located at the Camden Air Museum in the western suburbs of Sydney. It's a Northrop produced A-31 RAAF A27-99 / RAF S/N EZ999. A second one is under-rebuild in Australia using scavenged parts from wrecks from New Guinea (A27-247 / RAF 929). Recent photos of each A/C can be viewed on www.adf-serials.com

I read somewhere that A-35s were used at numerous bomber and fighter bases in England for the target tug role. As I recall some of them were "reverse lend-leased", the RAF bailed them back to the AAF, and others were AAF aircraft from the start. It's interesting that those first two photos show the War Weary markings on the vertical fin.

At some point during the war the 20th FG had an A-35 that was used for a target tug and group hack.

I didn't even think about the target tug role.

Too bad these airplanes are all but gone, wouldn't they have made great dusters or SEATs.
