Unless you are trying to get information concerning a prop they did. I called them about a TBM prob that they did, concerning the AD. I asked them when it was due for reinspection as the AD had 3 and 5 yr inspections. 3 yrs if it had corrosion pitting, 5 if not. They could not, or would not tell me.

They cost us $1500 because of poor paperwork/records.

One thing that bothers me about prop shops and repair stations, they seem to think they are exempt from the FARs when it comes to signing off ADs. When ADs are signed off, it must have the following information, DATE, method of compliance, if reoccurring time when next due, who did the work, and certificated number. All I have ever gotten from a prop shop is CW AD.

We deal with Byam Propeller at Fort Worth Meacham Airport. We just got a B-17 prop back from them the other day. They are great folks to do business with. They take good care of the warbird'ers! (just ask Karen / LadyO2Pilot).

I second that, Dean. They performed a miracle on my blade.

Although I must say I have also dealt with San Antonio Prop recently for the front prop........not a catastrope...just change of seals. They were great to deal with and were very good in going out to Boerne to get the prop/hub assembly and returning it to the hangar when finished........just can't fit it in my non-pickemup vehicle.

I had less than cordial dealings with Jordan in Houston 7 years ago but maybe they were on a different time schedule than me...LOL

At what point did you review the paperwork? Upon delivery? You should have gotten the required info immediately, not wait days, weeks, months or years. I've usually had pretty good luck with uncooperative shops like that when I told them I'd be contacting the FSDO about their paperwork methods. I usually have to do it regarding work orders instead of just 'yellow tags' or ICA for STCs, but that usually does the trick.

I was doing a inspection on a TBM and was trying to determine when the AD was due. All I had was a yellow tag and a log book entry that said AD 81-13-06 R2 CW. I called them and asked for more information as to wether or not the blades had pits or not, and was the reinspection due in 3 yrs or 5 yrs. How could I determine that ? I was not there when the prop was torn down, nor was I there when the teflons were removed. Only the prop shop could make that determination, and it should have been noted in the logbook entry, and on the yellow tag.

I ended up pulling the prop and having the AD done.

From what I hear around town (here in San Antonio) folks generally think well of them. I know that our shop just got a prop back from them this week. My guess is that they have bad days like most of us do, but overall have a good reputation. I think that there are actually two shops in town.

Not sure you saw the pictures of rear prop damage posted here end of May/first of June........but Byam was able to actually save the blade......it was straightened and a tiny bit shortened with other one evened up and stilll well within tolerances. I was amazed. The pictures were nasty but in person it looked worse.

I have not wanted to broadcast much about this as I am still doing some close in test flying to determine if all is well and confirm what appears to be no damage to the engine. All checks and flying have been going well....but can't bless it as good to go yet.

Now if we could just stop the 100+ degree temps in Dallas/Ft Worth area...I would be a happy camper....Flying semi-low in a black airplane for hours upon hours is just so much fun

We are trying to track down two or four prop distrubtors to allow the pitch of the props to be selected on our hamitlton standard props on our lancaster.
