How come I don't see the little yellow icon

I have found that if you leave a window alone for an hour or so and then refreash the yellow icon dissappears. I have also found that if you refresh a few times in a row, the yellow icon disappears. Also if you log in, look at only a few threads leaving others with yellow icons, log-out, then log back in, all of the yellow icons disaappear.

It would be nice if the yellow icon remains until you have read the newest messages in the thread, no matter if you log in our out.
