I saw the following when out with an astronomy group in Wyoming back in my college days.
This light was going across the sky... no sound... and it would stop... go backward... then resume its direction in a sec or two.
Image
1.) We were not drinking…
2.) Everyone in the group was knowledgeable about astronomy and sky related phenomena.
3.) It was an official University of Wyoming astronomy course and professors witnessed the event.
4.) No… I was not drinking…

a.) Meteors go in a straight direction… they do not blink.
b.) Aircraft may/may not blink… but they do not back track.
c.) Satellites may fade... As the Earths shadow gets in the way… or blinks as they spin…or far away mountains block the sunlight reflection.

So what was this? No one knew… This was a UFO.

Later it was suggested that this was a Light hanging from a high altitude balloon, and it was swinging back and forth.
Do I know that for sure? No… So it still technically is a UFO. Most likely it was just a balloon.
I imagine that most sky related phenomena are just that… Logical objects viewed in a restricted way.
So until they land… and leave garbage on the ground… I just can not imagine that there is anything more to it than just lights in the sky.

Still, one must wonder what all these people are seeing in the sky.
Makes for good campfire stories...

It's funny, but you just may have given me a fun idea to play on the neighbors... A small LED setup on a helium balloon. Fantastic! Wonder how many calls the local PD will get.
I recon I could tether it for re-use, too!
