Posting in Anger/Clashes of personality

Sun Feb 13, 2005 1:45 pm

One of the hazards of using text as a means of communication is the lack of tonal inflection and body language. Two necessary items we use to judge the mood or intention of the individual we are speaking with. With the lack of this information we sometimes use our current mood or opinions of a person to color our perceptions of a post.

We recently had a post wherethe topic was legitimate and of interest but because the poster had a bad reputation the response was negative and uncalled for, and essentially showed that the responder hadn't correctly interpreted the original message but responded emotionally. This led to a bit of conflict

I would ask all of you to consider your impressions of a person how the influence your response BEFORE you respond. Also, if a post makes you angry please ask yourself why. You should also take a moment to calm down before responding.

Another thing, there have been several instances of threats being sent to board members through PM and e-mail. This recently resulted in the arrest of a former member. PM is a privelage and I can and will take it away if I find it being used in this way.

Discussions have a place here, emotional arguements don't. We can all get along if we respect each other even if thier opinion differs from yours.

I'll have to agree with you Scott.
I've seen instances on other boards were people were accussed of abuse just because they used CAPSWHEN TYPING THEIR MESSAGE. I TEND TO DO IT BECAUSE THESE EYES CAN SEE THE PRINT BETTER.

Chaps, this site is purely voluntary to read. Please respect all readers and posters. After all an opinion is just that and if you don't agree then make a polite point if you must. Let's try and put the civil back into civilisation.

Scott...quite right. I post on 2 other boards and on one, some exchanges were getting so animus that another site was created to get away from it. The new site is by invitation only and has been quite sucessful in it's intent.
I, naturally, never engaged in the animosity being as how I'm so engaging, peaceful, courteous, clean, thrifty, brave....oh wait, that's something else isn't it? :?
