I recieved this email; can anyone help?

Good Morning Bob,

I am the Production Supervisor on an HBO Films' biopic about Temple Grandin. Temple was born in 1948, diagnosed with Autism, overcame her disadvantage, received a PHD in Animal Husbandry, and has developed strategies, for the handling of beef cattle, that have revolutionized the industry and the humane treatment of livestock.

Our Director, Mick Jackson, is proud to be an honorary Colonel in the Commemorative Air Force.

We will be shooting our film in and around the Austin Area. In one of our scenes we need a Convair CV-240, or a Martin 404, or a suggestion of another aircraft similar to the afore mentioned ones. Additionally we would need to have a rolling stairway appropriate to the aircraft circa late 70's early 80's. At this writing we would need the aircraft at the Georgetown Airport on October 2nd &/or October 3rd.

I appreciate your willingness to post my request on your bulletin board in the hopes that one of your members has access to, or be able to vector me toward my target.

POF has one of each and I think CAF Camarillo has a Convair. There is also a Convair parked in front of Aero Trader that looks airworthy. Maybe one of these folks would have an idea.

They should talk to Airborne Imaging. That's the only CV-240/340/440 I can think of that still has full passenger windows and looks semi like a passenger aircraft.

BTW, the CAF no longer owns the Convair that was at the SoCal wing.

The POF Convair is in Western Airlines markings.

Is the former CAF Convair the one at Aero Trader then?

Here are some photos of the Western and Pacific Air Lines airliners that are at Planes of Fame in Valle, AZ. They even have a period stairs.




Those were the days when you walked from the friendly ticket counter agent through the terminal waiting area to the airplane. The airlines served food and you were treated like you were important to their operation.

I believe you may have a lot of luck contacting
www.airliners.org who have a Martin 404 (N636X),
pictured above, that flies?, certainly taxies anyway.

Jeff Whitesell of Airliners Of America is the owner and
he's used it in 3 or 4 previous motion pictures.

Jeff donated '36X to Planes of Fame, and she's is now on display at their Arizona location. Jeff wrote a great article on the 4-0-4's final flight. It appeared in Air Classics a month or two ago. It's a "must-read" for the propliner freak (like me!).

Jeff Whitesell used to own that 404. That was sitting outside of the hangars at the CAF in Camarillo for a few years while Jeff got it flyable, and sellable. The POF now owns it and it's current home is Valle, Arizona.

The last time I saw this Convair they had put a funky radar nose on it...but she is a regular flyer.
