Greetings
Did Swamp Ghost have a Name when it was flying in WW 2 ? How did it get the Name of Swamp Ghost ? Was it because some time it was seen from the Air and some time it was not ?

I don't know, but I get the feeling that the "Airplane Currently Known as Swamp Ghost" didn't have a name during the war.

As for how it got its present name, I figure that it's because it was living in a swamp when it was found, and that it was almost like a myth or mystery that whether it existed or not.

Maybe? I'll let someone in the know take it from there.

Cheers,

David

Assuming the Ghost' gets restored I would not be opposed to simple yellow "SWAMP GHOST" lettering on the nose. Similar in style to the names applied to other B-17's in the Phillipines at the time. :D

Actually, I mean "The Movie Swamp Memphis Belle".
Oh wait, they haven't made the documentary yet about the recovery, hence we can't make a Hollywoodized version of the documentary about the history and recovery of the original "Real Swamp Memphis Belle"!!!

I'm so excited now I guess I'm getting ahead of myself!!

For some resason the ideal of painting "Swamp Ghost" in a very stylized vintage 30's art deco way in a Ghost Flames type way. Maybe done in a slight dark candy clear that could only be seen in different angles. Too much?

Aw, forget it, just paint checkered cowls on it and some a Sharks mouth on the nose, next to the girl on the phone that is.

TAdan....it's obvious that you are lacking on your WWII B-17 history...You should very well know that Swamp Ghost pre-dated the Normandy Invasion, and thus so....wouldn't carry the D-Day Invasion stripes...In all accuracy, it should have the C-Day stripes....

I was reviewing older posts and ran across this one and having not covered all of the latest posts prior to page 330 as yet, wondered if there was any "new" information on Swamp Ghost. Where eggzaclaly is she now, and has anyting been done with/to her yet?

Most of it is sitting in pieces in an open storage yard at Chino, with the nose section on display at Planes of Fame

Don't the owners realize the sense of urgency WIXers have in the restoration of this aircraft to airworthy condition? C'mon, get on with it already!
