Warbird Information Exchange

Last week I went to start Old Blue and I blew the oil filter apart! Changed filters and blew the seal on the new filter. My best guess is the oil pump pressure relief valve stuck closed, so I pulled the engine and am now puting a new pump in, along with a new clutch and timing chain. Anyone ever here of a pump doing this?

Was it a FRAM filter?

The one that blew was a Motorcraft FL1A, the filter that blew the seal was a Fram PH8A. I got the engine back together with a new pump, all appears OK after spinning the new pump with a drill motor. I needed a new clutch and timing chain also. The engine will be going back in this week, I hope.

A new oil pump fixed it.
