I am currently working on a book covering the History of the 130 Swiss AF P-51's and F-6's 1948 - 1958 including their former service with various units of the 8th and 9th USAAF ETO during the closing stages of WW 2 and later Occupation duty in Germany 1945 - 1948.

I'm not doing a book but a multimedia CD-ROM about the 79th. Fighter Squadron during the war, it includes:

Over a 1,000 images, 170 pilot/officer profiles, complete rosters of all personnel, over 90 virtual galleries of related items, photo galleries, interviews (one audio, a rare recording of former 20th. Fighter Group C.O. Harold Rau from the late 70's), video clips -including guncamera footage, a 3D recreation of the control tower as it was in the 1940's, a section on life in the US and UK during the war, overviews of selected missions, info and specs on the P-38 and P-40, original music my Professor Laramie P. Roush...and more.

Alot of generous folks from both the WIX and Fly Past forums have submitted material for inclusion, as have former members of the squadron and their families. By the time it is ready I'll have over 2 years in just compiling everything together and eight years worth of research invested in the project.

A companion website (www.fightin79th.com) should be up by mid-March and the tentative release date is August 23rd.

I published an article about the Fw 149D in a local aviation mag, and I should really finish the Harvard write-up I was doing...

I'm working on a book (been working on it in various forms since 2001) covering Cavalier Mustangs and the Piper Enforcer. It is both a historical look at the story of how the airplanes came to be as well as a technical run-down of each of the Cavalier and Enforcer types. Should have lots of photographs (many previously un-published) and tons of research data on individual airframes. The final composition and size, of course, will have a lot to do with the publisher.

My goal is to have it published prior to the Mustang Gathering at Reno in June '06.

I'm encouraged by the fact that so many others are also working on books. I thought I was the only total geek 'round here! Good luck to everyone...It has been a pain in the butt working on my book (even with the _very generous_ help of many, including several WIXers). By the time it's done I'll have spent in excess of 5 years, off and on, working on it. As a full-time military officer/pilot, plus being a husband and a dad, the time to work on my book is very limited (especially when I have other hobbies, too!). My wife will be much happier when the book is done, although I have really enjoyed all the research and interviews -- it's really a labor of love for me.

i haven't written any books but i have 3 published magazine articles to my credit. 2 in air classics magazine, 1 in military trader magazine & 1 to soon be published in air classics or warbirds magazine sometime in 2005. i have numerous other article topics that i am considering as well. best, tom

I've had a crash log published by Midland Counties.

Royal Air Force Coastal Command Losses Vol 1, 1939 to 1941.

Currently on the final months to camera ready copy of Volume 2, 1942 to 1943.

Also just privately released a data CD of RAF Air force Officers 1922 to 1939 consisting of Gradation dates for over 16,000 RAF Warranted and Commissioned Officers.

I've contributed materials and research to about 40 books on US military aviation in WWII/Korea and am working on a pictorial history of the 44th FS in WWII and am the historian for their association.

As many of the WIX members know, I have been working on the ultimate book on civilian P-51 Mustangs, for many years. The project is NOT a history of the use of P-51s in combat. It IS the story of what became of every mustang airframe that was sold as surplus and flown as a civilian registered aircraft, anywhere in the world.
The "working" title is, THE LAST OF THE WILD HORSES.
There will be a history of every civil registered airframe,
a cross reference list of civil registrations to serial numbers,
a cross reference list of aircraft names to registration numbers,
a list of sources of civil registered aircraft,
a list of museum and displayed mustangs,
a list of modifications approved for civil mustangs,
a chapter on "working" mustangs, that had civilian "jobs",
a list of FAA required modifications to convert from military to civilian use.
a NAA production list matching c/n to s/n to USAAF designation,
a list of mustangs destroyed begining in 1946,
a list of every known person or company to have their name appear in
the ownership records of any mustang.

and finally at least one photo of every known civil mustang.

Like Randy Haskin, I am hoping to have this thing ready for the 2006 Mustang gathering in Reno.

Sounds like some of us will come home from that Mustang gathering with a full bag of books!!

Randy... I have often wonder about more of the history behind Cavalier. I saw the Cavalier with the tip tanks based here in Texas a few years back and tried to read up more on them... didnt find much.

Dick... REALLY can see a book like yours selling well!!! Will help us figure out... "what happen to so and so's Mustang" with that list of the names that appeared on ownership records.

What began as a short article, has evolved into what is now a 58 page long article, on a "snapshot" of what the Guatemalan Military Aviation Corps was like, in 1939. WACO VPF-7s, Ryan ST-Ms, Potez XXV-A2, Caudron Aiglons... 4 years so far, doing work on this article, on and off...

Every time I believe that I am ready to publish it, a new detail comes up and I have to review and modify some data that now is seen under a different light...

I am also researching an article on the Fuerza Aerea Uruguaya's F-51D Mustangs ferry flight from the USA to Montevideo, Uruguay.
