Anyone have ifo on this one? The date is unknown.

The bomber crashed at a farm near Tarkio, Mo., in Atchison County. The four-engine plane plowed through a farmer’s corn field and wiped out 13 cows before coming to rest beside a barn, Mr. ****said.

“The pilot told me that an old man was feeding chickens as the plane crashed and never stopped or even turned around,” he said. “But what I remember are the nude chickens, a bunch of those birds lost every feather they had in that crash.”

They were shaking down their new ship and soon to depart Herington for the Port of Embarkation. The 497th had done Second and Third Phase training at Pratt AAF, Kansas and was processing for transfer to the combat zone at Herington.
