I'm curious what type you are using. Is it one of the Civil Defense units? I've got two meters but I think they both need to go out for overhaul, if there is any such place that will do it. I've always wanted to see what the cockpit reading would be in our 1972 AN-2 vs the 1991 AN-2. I've heard that you can get significant readings from the center cockpit glass in a MiG-17 and a MiG-17. Not sure about the MiG-21. I had to walk away from an airplane deal in Russia back in 1992 due to excessive readings. For the most part, I do not worry very much about the Radium dial face issue but no doubt, ionizing radiation kinda sucks. I've heard that Madame Currie's lab notebooks are now kept in lead boxes as they are not safe to handle without significant protection. I assume Radium exposure is what killed her so clearly, it can be dangerous stuff.

I'm not getting this topic. Am I hearing that radium dials weren't all that bad? Methinks you need your geiger counter checked. UNless your kid scraped the paint of and ate it, it should still give you a nice high reading. My uncle had an old altemeter in his workshop for years and years. It definitely made my gieger counter click and clack like a mariachi band.
