Warbird Information Exchange

Being someone who is easily bored by what I usually should be doing, I've been doing a lot of research on the static warbirds on display in Ohio. I've been using a combination of several webpages, AerialVisuals (if MrHenniger reads this, I'm the one who posted the update on the Minigolf PV-2/UH-1 on there ) and google maps to make a map of Ohio's display warbirds for myself (and also display armor, and not just in Ohio....hence why I made my own). However, in my sojourns across the internet, I've come across listings for several aircraft that I can't account for, either for lack of listing on Aerial Visuals, inability to visually confirm via google maps, or simple lack of any records in any but one of my sources. I'm hoping that you guys can help me determine where these aircraft went, if they left, or if they're still there (in which case I can plan 'expeditions' to photograph them

I found this while googling around for sources, and it is the source for a lot of the aircraft listed above. I have a distinct fear that you guys have totally discredited this book some time that I haven't read about, mainly becuase it lists several T-33's with serial numbers that don't exist

I'd be very surprised if any of the others survive. One of the problems with so many sources is that they do not record a "last sighting" date. Most of those on your list have not been seen for over 30 years.

Kinda funny to see a T-33 listed for Donnelsville. I've been a firefighter in Bethel Twp---which includes Donnelsville----for almost fifteen years, and was in neighboring Springfield Twp for eight years before that. I've never seen hide-nor-hair of ANY airplanes there. Not sure why one would be listed, as the village is about ten feet long and there are no veterans halls, museums, or any other place where you might expect to see a plane.

I have pictures of the Marietta T-33 that I took in the early 90's. I think I read some where it's behind a fence now, wasn't when I saw it.
I'll post the pic's when I find them.

Yeah, and they had that cop car on the main drag there all the time......I don't think it had a motor. They just towed/pushed to either side of road to fool unknowing speeders!

I am glad a read this thread, the last few years I have only had the time to skim the titles and dig a bit deaper on the occasional thread.



I do seem to remember a Location submission a few months back about this pair. Thanks again if that was indeed you. If it is a recent submission I may not have gotten to it yet. I have been away for a few days on a long haul with my brother-in-law helping them move to my town, so I am just getting around to catching up with the Locator now. You may yet hear from me.

As for the other sources of info you mention (most of which are in the credits seciton of the Locator as they were my initial source of info) I tend to find the lists are not often updated and so can be unreliable.

Andy makes a valid point about the "last noted" dates. This is an important piece of information for these lists. The Locator unfortunately does not specifically support the collection of this info, however each location has a log associated with it. ANYONE can make entries in the Location Logs, which are instantly visible to others to read via direct links to the location logs or via the Locator Forum. If you take a trip to find a displayed plane, especially if you use the Locator, after your trip use the Locator to find the plane you spotted and make a note saying when you were there to see it. The more people who use the Locator and chip in with information like this the better it will get. Without contributors the Locator would just be another static dead list.

gale_dono... I hope you don't mind me stepping up on a soap box in your thread, but I think I sort of stayed on topic. I am glad to hear you are making good use of the Locator.

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

Any idea where it might have gone to? I assume scrapped, of course

The F-86L referred to above is almost certainly 53-1060. This aircraft was used by General Electric as an engine test bed. It is believed to have been placed on static display in Evandale, Ohio. 53-1060 was purchased by William Hogan of Hamilton. The Yankee Air Force based at Willow Run Airport near Detroit, Michigan acquired this plane in August of 1982 and it was trucked to our museum and restored for outdoor static display. 53-1060 is currently undergoing a re-restoration and repaint.
