SHORT TEMPER DISEASE. delete please.

I've contemplated taking a break from WIX for the exact same reasons as many others have.

I would love to see more discussion about certain aspects of the warbird world. You know, the kinds of things where you can learn something you didn't know before.

Like hey, how fast could the ball turret on a B-17 swivel? Or, How effect were the radars and radio navigation aids during WWII compared to today, and how did the German equipment compare to the allied equipment? Or, how about, what is the longest serving Military airplane? What were the axis techniques for taking down our bombers? What maneuvres were put to best use in aerial combat? etc? etc?

WIX used to be such a great place to learn so much, but as it's become more of a community, there is less plane talk and more chatters.

Here's hoping we can get some good dialogue going on to bring back our friends.

You are exactly right, there is nothing wrong with WIX!!!
This is a great site, I've been visiting for several years and joined just recently.
The subject matter is great, it's a little tough to figure out how to post pics etc. but with a little work it can be figured out.
When I first started logging on to the site I would go directly to the "F-86 Annual Inspection" thread, I was helping out on that inspection and Dave did a Great job posting pics of all the work being done.
Later I would log on and read alot of the other posts, 99% were all true warbird/aviation related threads/postings.
Then there were those that had nothing to do with anything other than picking a fight, those are not worth reading or even getting involved with.
I made the mistake of making a post on one of them and giving my opinion, that only opened a can O' worms...
I quickly closed that by limitng my responses and leaving it alone.
Once again this is a great site, lets stay focused...

I apologize for screwing up so much for so many. I am personally just sick and tired of feeling like a cat in a dog pound. If the whole politics thing were to simply disappear I think we'd all be much better off. I finally exploded in that last one--and it's had an awful effect. I've had an awful effect.

Jack, you come back and I'll disappear. Word of honor. Your presence is worth far more to this community than mine. I'd trade my loud mouth for your loud mouth any day. And I won't do a sabercat whatsisname with the new ID every week either. Gone will be gone. Just lay off the political argument and I'll sign out and lurk for evermore.

No one needs to leave. I don't post much, but stop in every day. I very much enjoy what I read here and what I larn.

What is apparent is that there are some very strong personalities, with strong opinions.

I love Jack's photo archive, but he like many others, sometimes goes over the top in his commentary when he disagrees too.

Nothing wrong with that as long as it's understood that other people's opinions may not be the same.

Taking a break is anyone's choice.

I don't believe a post count, or anything else give's someone a greater right to speak their mind, while other's need to back off.

Treating each other with respect would seem to be the key.

Hey Mark...from one thin-skinned cat to another...I could not have said what you said any better. I thought when I first found this site that I had found a treasure trove of info to explore and ask as many stupid questions of people who knew enourmous amounts more about warbirds than I. Short-lived idea...I think it was the second question I asked about how hard it would be to turn a Privateer into a flying B-24. Holy Crap! All the numbskull-know-it-alls jumped on and had a blast! Since then I have been very wary about posting anything that might draw the ire of the very few "experts" (I believe an expert is a drip under pressure!).

I enjoyed the heck outta some of the questions you started and learned a lot...all from the sidelines

Personally, I do computerized machining for the defense industry. If a young fella comes to me and has a question about machining, I love passing on whatever knowledge I have gained over the past 20 years. If I find he or she has an interest in old airplanes, we spend a little more time talking about my love I have never and will never belittle anyone for asking a "dumb" question as I don't think there is such a thing. Earn my respect and never lose it!
