And whom we should maybe be bugging to help us push the navy into a corner. If we can get a number of congressmen to gang up on them (and maybe even a president) we may be able to rescue a couple of warbirds.

Jim Webb. Isn't he a retired admiral?http://www.webb.senate.gov/contact/
You can fill out a comment/ request here.

Here's a way to contact him. I wrote him and asked him to have one of his leeches--oops, I mean interns- look into it and see if he oculdn't give us some sort of reply here. Though tyou might want to do the same, and maybe add a potential Navy type with some pull who we shoudl start harassing like the crusty old farts taht we are. I personally could give a darn that they aren't my senator. They still have to listen, and that's at a minimum something we can do. for free. And mayeb have an effect. So do it.

And whiel you're at it, list your own pet Congressman/governor/ mayor/ rich guy who might have some pull and a way we can contact him. I think we should lean on the Navy any way we can. It's the only way they'll listen.

I would NOT suggest placing McCain on that contact list until after the election. Either way he'll be more receptive, and hopefully mor eable to help.

Before doing anything on the Navy front, someone should take the time to understand the problem properly, which is quite a challenge given all the legal documents and interpretations.

which is why I am asking ex navy types to do the digging. If it really IS just navy bullheadedness, I'm sure COngress will be able to see it and change it. If it's not, I would expect an Ex Navy type to be relatively honest about it. Neh?

I am sur ethat's not a perfect world, but it might shake a tree.

Yes, I do know, and it seems to me that the warbird community couldn't come to a consensus over the best plan of action - except not the one proposed (which is OK with me if that's their best judgment). In fact it turned into a bit of a dogfight that got people banned and still has good folks on both sides with bad feelings.
I personally believe that there probably IS at least one, possibly more ways to get something done, but they need to be looked at by a good legal team, and then have the support of a good percentage of the folks in the restoration and recovery communities - who ought to see that working together on this matter is in everyone's best interests in the long run.
Oh, and the reason folks need to be willing to work together on such a deal is that there may be things going on that others are not aware of that could be harmed by uninformed actions. For instance, if someone was a couple of weeks from making some sort of deal and had invested some good money into the negotiations, it would probably leave a bad taste in their mouth if some of us had gone and gotten some congressman involved, and inadvertently messed up their deal.
No such deal would have to be a "secretive" or "illegal" deal, perhaps the recovery group might just want to keep it quiet so they could get at it first without vandals finding out and doing damage. There can be a LOT of good reasons for people to keep their mouths shut.

Well, from where I stand, if LAST Entry on an aircrafts history/record/card is stamped/typed/hand written "S T R I C K E N" indicating that the aircraft is stricken from inventory, then the sucker is stricken from inventory and available for scrap or salvage plane as day. No where is the aircraft record marked "void at the descretion of the Department of the Navy". The Navy.......trying to describe how I feel about their "opinion of ownership".....well.....Arggggggggggg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know what Ryan? I'm tired of letting idiots get in the way of saving these warbirds. Find a number of somebody who might care and can make a difference. And call him and ask him to make a difference.

If someone wants to get his nose bent about it, then welcome to it. I've told more than one selfish old man to pound sand where it don't feel good. I'll happily tell another. I want those aircraft saved far more than I want to salve somebody's feelings when they're being as much a part of the problem as the Navy.

Post a name folks.
