Successful Surgery

Mon Oct 20, 2008 8:36 am

Just thought I'd let you guys know I've successfully beat down the "C" word this past week.
I had my prostate removed on the 14th. I've been going through all the investigation and procedures to choose since early July.

I was fortunate in that they detected it at about the earliest stage you can detect it it at. Very slow growing so they gave me about 5 months to decide what to do. Not a huge rush.
After consulting with everyone and some friends who have had the same problem, I decided to have it removed.

Even my radiologist said that I was the perfect candidate for surgery. 50, good health, detected very early and contained entirely in the prostate. Not much chance of migration or the need to remove "surrounding" tissue.

They got all of it and there is no spreading to the lymph nodes, so I'm pretty lucky. Just this annoying catheter in for a week!

The numbers are pretty high for males to get this at some point in your lives, so make sure you get your annual physical. My prostate had been getting larger for about 5 years but they weren't concerned about the numbers until last spring's physical. They found it early and we dealt with it quickly.

Do yourself a favor and get your physical every year!

Now I know I have more time to try and find someone willing to give me an F4U and the training that goes with it!!!
Blue skies and stay healthy.
Jerry

Great news Jerry! I just hope there are no "complications" from the surgery

Like someone else said; Get your PSA checked!

This stuff killed my dad 11 yrs. ago and I cringe everytime I hear of anyone who contracts this...

Good news Jerry.

I had my 6 month checkup with the Urologist last Wednesday. (Follow up to Kidney stone issues/operation in 2003)

He did the full check-up.

Said I had no prostate issues, but that I did have a loose filling in one of my back molars!
