Hi Karen et all,

Microbreweries are all the rage, of course. One food/beverage item that I've found to be very regional is bottled root beer. Here in Wisconsin everyone knows Sprecher (made in Milwaukee), but when I travel with the family I usually treat the kids to a local bottled "brew".

Anyone else have a favorite gourmet root beer?

We have Adirondack Soda, they make Root Beer but that is a bit commercial over all.

Emu Bitter is great. Swan Stout was also very good.

You can keep your Vegamite, thank you Nasty stuff! :vom:

It's more like licorice flavored carbinated motor oil

And Chicken Fried Steak is one of my favorites.

When I lived in Virginia there was a truck stop that had scrambled eggs and pigs brains... never had the guts to try it.

Pigs brains
That reminded me of something we tried to get my Dad to try when we were in North Dakota....."Rockey Mountain Oysters" They served them at a lot of restaurants out there....for those of you who don't already know....Buffalo Testicles :!: Dad never did try them.....
My Aunt is very fond of pickled beef tongue, and my entire family enjoys, and forgive me if I don't spell this correctly....Soupasailles....It is a cross between dried chorizo, and pepperoni. We live near the coal regions of PA, and there are a great many cultures represented in these areas.

Hey you New Englanders....How about a genuine Boston baked beans recipe?

Karen

Hi Karen,
Just so you know, there is a bill in the Maine Legislature right now to make Moxie the State Drink(also to move Maine into the Atlantic time zone to be more in line with our Canuk Cousins  ).

Do you know how hard it would be to move a state? The packing would be a nightmare.

quandongs are native peaches, very tart in flavour but make delicious jams and sauces.

tim tams are our version of your oreos in some ways.
they are a pair of chocolate biscuits with a chocolate cream ( original variety, others have hazelnut praline or different sorts of cream ) between them and then chocolate covered. comes in various flavours and are EXTREMELY addictive!

one interetsing secondary way of using them is as an indulgence straw. you take one tim tam, just barely nip off both ends, put mouth to one end and then drink a slightly cooled cup of coffee through it.

another thing I just thought of you might not have there is milo or possibly nutrigrain.

milo is a nutrious milk drink additive sort of like quik and is better had hot in my opinion.

nutrigrain is a breakfast cereal.

Here in the Boston area Roast Beef Sandwiches are a regular sight.
Seafood is big, like fried clams and stuff
But there are not really any oddball things like say...
Rhode Island has their two state beverages:
Autocrat Coffee Milk
Del's frozen Lemonade (the best reason to go to Quonset)

I'm in 100% agreement there!

BTW, when I lived on Guam they use to import meat and produce from Australia for the commissary. The Australian beef had a unique flavor and was some of the best I ever tasted. I think they fed roos to the cows or something. :)

I know a place in NY that one can get a great Key lime Pie. I've been told as good as one can find down south. I never had a southern Key lime so I can't vouch for that but I can say it is GREAT!

Maybe Kelly grabbed the recipe before she quit.

I've been helping out with the Peacan Pie recipe. Hmmmm
:D

All this talk about Key Lime Pie,

The Chocolate company that Shannon works for makes a killer Key Lime Truffle. This seasons batch are all gone, I'm having withdrawals.
