Is that HVAC tape covering all the panel lines to make it more aerodynamic?
It looks really cool!

Drag racers do the same thing. Every little bit helps!

Wow, I just noticed that this is post nr. 666 for me. I should have waited until Halloween. . .

Cheers!

P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer.

S: Took hammer away from midget.

Why go to all the trouble of taping that up? Even with those slight aero improvements, I'd be surprised if it didn't come in dead last. Fouga's aren't exactly known for being fast airplanes. :)

Well, it qualified at 405 mph and went 425 mph in the Silver Race on Sunday -- would have been the upper range in the Unlimited class. A stock Mustang at 60 inches will do the same course at about 325 mph or a bit more (til it overheats)...

This is not sharp, but does get the colour shifting paint.

WTF:shock:  Now that's sick! :?
The dude even has antenna's removed and his flaps taped shut! That speed is still a bit from it's top speed mach 0.82 though.
Paint looks cool though. A tip for him, remove the rear seat. Another few pounds saved :D

Yes it is more aerodynamic, but its not your hardware store duct tape, its aluminum foil tape:

and I've flown it to .82M, and it stayed there at FL370 at that speed.

Its commonly known as "Jet Tape" or "500MPH Tape". As a teenager, I used to tape over ruston car bodies to get them past inspection......

Hey guys I was daydreaming the other day and have a question? If you were going to buy a jet and go racing at Reno, what are the choices?
Information is sketchy on the internet, it looks like someone went around the pylons in a T-33 at over 400knots. Most of this past years entrants were L-29's and L-39's with the engines "tweaked up." What could a Mig 15 or Iskra do? Would it be possible to race an old Learjet or are there limitations regarding G-loads?
Thanks

Pretty sure in the rules the main thing is the race is limited to jets with straight wings, i.e. no sweep. You wouldn't be able to take your F-86 or any of the Migs out, but your Iskra should be fine. There may be other rules but AFAIK this is the main one.

I bought the roll I have at the hardware store. 8)

I've got to admit that when I saw the gold photo (and before I read The text), I thought Bud had brought one of his Fougas to Reno.

From what I understand, the T-33, and T-2 have been banned from the jet class as well. There is also a course "speed limit" of 535mph npw in that class.
