This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

I was prowling around a local airport this afternoon and met this little fellow who I have heard about for 30 years.
There he was working away on his latest creation...a turbine powered pressurized Lancair...
Anybody know him?
The first correct answer gets a Pony....

Ztex, Not too sure who it is, but just judging by the wardrobe, it ain't Sarah Palin. Just in the face he looks a lot like Gov and security guy Tom Ridge of Penn. I never read that he was a pilot. Am I close, or is it just a coincidence?
And that looks like a busy engine compartment!

Looks a lot like Bob Diemert...but it's been years since I've seen him.

Is that radial cowling on the floor going on the Lancair?

I vote for Bob.
Is this up in ND area as a couple years back that was where someone had seen him working on a similar, if not the same creation.

Chuck, I have my doubts that no matter how good Bob is, I don't think he can make a DC-3 cowl fit on a Lancair...

Considering that the properties of the pic have the name Bob, I would guess you are right.

Gary, since it appears he is in Texas, maybe he is looking to restore another plane for the CAF............................

That would not stop him from trying

Yep the Defender in Texas! The one and only Bob Diemert!
He was working on this Lancair at the Midlothian airport in the Airborne Imaging hanger. He was quite friendly. When I told him I was a Warbird nut he told me the he was there at the beginning of the movement. He talked about flying the Hurricane during BOB filming, about the Lancair project, the Zero and the Val, the jungle, his new prototype steam powered aircraft engine, the T-33, the C-47 and the Convair on the field, his 1957 Caddy, his ...well you get the idea...I feel like I've known him for ever...
Nice afternoon at the airport with an old tinkerer. Fun!

So did Bob move to Texas or is he just doing a project there now?
Does Bob still do any work on any warbirds?
Does he have any warbird stuff left or is it all sold off?
As much negativity as has been said about him, he did save some extremely rare warbird types from extinction! You have to give him some credit for that despite his rather unconventional restorations.

If you get to talk to him again, ask him about the rope tied to the elevator of the hurricane during the movie, used to stabilize the plane. I've heard Connie Edwards tell it.
