who was flying over Sports Flyers a.k.a. Brookshire International Space Port and Petting Zoo this afternoon:

Sir, just in case you don't know this:

It is extremely impolite and almost a faux-pas, to circle the airfield at 1500' and not buzz it!!!!! : )

Saludos,

Tulio

Tulio: You are correct, it IS impolite.
But, I have been told -in no uncertain terms- to refrain from 'fly-bys' at a particular airport, unless a second pass is presented.

You are a wise man indeed, Vlado!

The rule for the second pass must be enforced! : )

What? I thought the rule was, NEVER make a second pass. (That way they don't get your N#-not that I've ever mad a pass of any sort . . .)

John, I was.

I saw a CJ-6 making a pass, then heading South (possibly towards Covey Trails). Was that you?

I also went to the Soaring Club of Houston [IIRC] field, north of Waller.

Saludos,

Tulio

Why 1500 ft ? We were enroute to Riverside with a flight of 4 T-6s, we were cruising along at 6500 ft and as we aproached Palm Springs, the aproach controller did not believe we were a flight of 4 and requested us to come down and prove it by doing a pass down the runway.

We complied.....................................Talk about hitting the down button

While leading lots of formation flights I have become very familiar with most of the airports (and controllers) around the LA area and the controllers frequently ask me for flybys. Sometimes I can (at 1000' agl of course) and sometimes I'm not able to do them. This past weekend we were going over LAX at 2500' and the controller came on and said "you guys look great if you have time to give us a flyby we would love it. I graciously declined. Just remember just because the controller clears you to do it that dosn't mean it is legal.

Ah!

One of these days, I will have to sit down and learn the difference between the Chinese and the Russian aircraft.

From afar, with the wheels protruding from under the wings and the roundish rudder, first thought was: CJ-6 : )

Nice paint on that Yak! I did not have my camera with me, though.

Saludos,

Tulio

Without revealing my age or the incident, I was driving to pick up a well-known pilot of a well-known warbird at a busy near-downtown airport that was the site for a weekend airshow and I was listening to the tower frequency on a hand-held as I got near. Sure enough, the tower asked said pilot to make a low pass down the active instead of landing.

Realizing where I was in relationship to the end of the runway I slowed to try and spot him and it was a good thing I did. The warbird crossed over the six-lane street at no more than 50' AGL and there was a sudden sea of brake lights. He pulled up into a turn and cars began stopping and trying to pull over to get a look at it.

Fortunately, no one hit anyone and there were a lot of guys with huge grins on their faces. I can only imagine how many people decided to go to the show because of what they saw.
