Geneseo Skyraider

Fri Feb 25, 2005 4:27 pm

Another Geneseo question. When I was at the 1997 airshow, there was a yellow AD-4W Skyraider sitting static BuNo 127922. Is it still at Geneseo with HAG 41 or did it go to Elmira as well?

Thanks, Dennis

Did this have the bubble canopy or the commuter plane canopy?

I posted a picture of it on my site:

you may have to give it a few minutes to be posted on the site,.

That looks very much like the one in storage in the back lot of Aero Trader at Chino. Not many Skyraiders with old yellow paint sitting about unless they came from the same source I would imagine.

I took this photo of the Skyraider at Geneseo last Movember. It is still there.

It is still owned by Tallichet

Perhaps this will help with the identity questions.

Although I did notice that this site lists #127931 and #127949 as both being located at Chino and both being ex-Swedish "SE-EBM"

The plot thickens...

That name rings a bell, that's the one! Been just sitting in Aero Trader's lot for a while.

I remember being at the geneseo show in '89 when the Skyraider arrived.... slung under a CH-54 skycrane no less.... was a pretty awesome site!

Cheers,
Richard

PS. It would be nice to see this bird restored to fly... there can't be enough SPADs on the circuit as far as I'm concerned :D !

If I'm not mistaken, three of the ex-Swedish Skyraiders ended up in the USA. One to Dave Tallichet, and two to Jack Erickson. One of Jacks was then sold to Cham Gill and has spent some time down at Chino.

Tallichet got the Geneneso Skyraider along with a C-47, Saab Lansen or two, and a Hunter in exchange for Spitfire PR XIX PM627. The Spit was a project at the time. Not a bad deal, eh?

A pair were at North Weald hangered with Aces High for a while in around 1986, I believe that these subsequently went to Jack Erickson.

All the stuff got cleared out of that Cham Gill hangar and the Skyraider is long gone also.

I could have sworn I saw that Skyraider in Aero Trader's backyard last weekend!
