C-119 Flying Boxcar has begun FINAL flight to Maryland

The C-119 bought at auction a couple of years back by the Hagerstown Aviation Museum in Hagerstown, MD took off today from Greybull, WY on its final return flight to Hagerstown.

The Flying Boxcar is scheduled to make its arrival at Hagerstown this Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008 between 12 Noon and 2:00 PM. Daily updates will be on the phone "hotline" number shown on the website.

I wish them the best on this final journey and I am going to try to make it to Hagerstown this weekend to see the arrival.

The original Jimmy Stewart version was a C-82 Packet, the forerunner of the Boxcar.

Naw, I mean the original. I was a kid when I saw it. Couldn't tell the difference until much later and then it didn't matter.

I must of crashed and rebuilt dozens of the old Aurora kits.

Hi Kevin, I hope all is well with the C-54 and the C-97.

I missed probably my only chance to see a C-82 in flight when I found out too late about the fly in of the Hagerstown Museum's Packet a couple of years back.

Hopefully I will have better luck catching the arrival of the Flying Boxcar.

The museum website has posted some nice photos of the C-119 takeoff and its departure from Greybull yesterday.

I would love to make it into an AC-119 and tour it with our AC-47 and let's see while were at it do a heritage flight with the AC-130.

I have only ever seen one AC-119. Hurlbert Field has a gunship museum and they have one in the collection there.
