Unfortunately that is the case. The fly in of the C-82 a couple of years back and this fly in of the C-119 were and will be the last flights of these two airplanes.
I don't think that the Museum has the resources to consider keeping these as flying warbirds. It would be great if it were possible.

John - Check the Museum website and call the hotline number; there is also another number referenced to talk to a live person I believe.
I am fairly certain it is staying there overnight. Not sure when it may be departing in the morning on the next leg. I hope you get to see it.

Not sure if that's the case or not. I think there was another one bought at Greybull a couple of years back that was flown to Arizona - not sure of its status.

That would make one heck of a Heritage Flight! I saw one of the last operational AC-119K's at the 25th Anniversary Air Show at Andrews AFB in Sept. 1972.
there is a junk yard in utah that has at least 1 tail boom..

I flew the Flight of the Phoenix C-119 to a privae strp outside of Wickenburg Az last Feb. It is supposed to be kept in flying condition, but Hans has alot of planes and not alot of help.

I talked to the FBO at Alton, and they're meeting there at 7:45AM. I'm leaving Smartt Field in the '6 at 6:30 to go see 'em off. I hope to post pics tomorrow.

there are a further 2 in AK being made slowly airworthy though

NO news that I am aware of on the C-119 flight progress as of 3:30 PM EST today (Nov. 14).
The Flight Tracker link for St Louis Reg Airport on the musuem website does not show that it has departed or a that a departure is pending.
No updates on the website and the phone "Hotline" is rather "Cool" with the current recording still saying it is "Wednesday, Nov. 12".
Not sure if there was a second planned overnight at St Louis Regional or if weather or some other issue is keeping it there. Hopefully Saturday it will be on its way and will still be able to arrive in Hagerstown on Sunday. Hopefully we will have some new information soon.

I think the hope is to keep the C-82 and C-119 in flying shape. Of course it will take someone with the interest and willing to make the financial commitment. I looked over a C-119G a couple of years ago and was amazed at how big and complex it was. Miles of wiring and every bit as complicated as a C-130.
My guess is that the C-82, with R-2800 engines would be less than half as expensive to restore and operate.

The phone hotline has been updated to confirm that weather has kept the C-119 from leaving St Louis today and that weather Sat. is expected to be poor also. The weather here in the Mid-Atlantic area is supposed to be poor on Saturday with a 100% chance of rain and possible thunderstorms. Sunday is supposed to be much better with sunshine.
According to the hotline the plan at this point is to leave St Louis Sunday morning and fly directly to Hagerstown arriving between 1:00 and 3:00 PM. I will be there.

It was funny the next day there were press interviews and I was asked how many flying C-119s there were and I said 3. I was then asked how many I had seen fly, I said none. She looked at me strange and said, Didn't you fly this one here yesterday ? said yes, and I was the Co-pilot, but I have never seen a C-119 fly, but I have flown a C-119.
