Local Aerial Activity

Hello Folks:

Has anyone seen any interesting aircraft flying around recently?

This evening in Tucson, I observed 3 P-51's, an F-86, and an F-4 in Vietnam Paint flying formation around Davis Monthan. They flew these and a P-38 last year. I think they do a formation clinic out here every 6 months.

I think I saw the American Airpower Museum P-47 fly over my house last weekend. I live about 4 miles from the end of the runway at Republic. My wife thinks I'm nuts - I'll drop anything (except the baby) and run for the front yard when I hear a radial engine!

Chris, that sounds like the USAF Heritage Flight guys. Last weekend I was at Randolph AFB and in Base Ops, while I was planning my return flight to Moody, those F-4 guys were talking about going out to fly with the Heritage Flight pilots this week somewhere out west.

Hi Randy:

It looked like it, because one of the P-51's had a lot of red paint; like the one always seen in the heritage flight.

I caught a C-130 here at BIA with a VERY dark gray over light gray camo. AND it had a BIG clear blister on the aft cargo door!? Will post pics when developed.

P-38 in Tucson this weekend

When I was coming out of work yesterday the P-38 and one of the P-51s that are here were just landing at Davis-Monthan. Just how many of the P-38s in the US are painted green and grey? Cause this one is. I only know of one, and I thought Glacier Girl wasn't flying much right now.

There are a couple good photos over on mustangsmustangs.net of this stuff I just found. The one you're referring to is Val Halla.

It apparently is the Heritage Flight conference...

You were at RAFB? That's about 5 miles from where I live.

I was actually there for a couple days...friday through monday. I was out interviewing someone for my book at Heritage Airpark, out about 15 miles east of Randolph.
