This photo is in the History of the 11 BG H the 42 Squadron on Page Nine. The book is called "GREY GEESE CALLING". On February 1, 1943 they lost the last three crew and planes of their original 26 B-17s.

I found my father had a copy with the names of the men on the back. He is "Bud" on the sand in the center with the helmet at his feet. This was taken in the Solomon Islands Campaign during 1942.
