Hi all,

while working here for a few days in Brisbane I have been provided with some parts and information on the following Hawker Aircraft, the plate I have reads as follows:

HAWKER AIRCRAFT LTD
Serial Number: 41 H 74 O 87
Drawing Number: D 5531 O 5
Date: 5 7 36

Then inside a circle is AID on top with OL3 underneath.
Finally A1 over 53 is stamped in one corner.

can anyone assist in identifying this aircraft via these details. I have been working on another aircraft recovery (no don't ask) and this has come up as a side issue.

any ideas, thoughts and or opinions appreciated.

cheers

41H identifies the factory where the aircraft was built.

I would suggest to post the message on the Key Publishing Forum.

I would suggest a Hawker Demon plate going by the date.

Guy Black in the UK could probably tell you everything you need to know.

Hawker Demon?

OK, I confess...I know bugger all about this type, educate me, did Australia have them, if so how many and what units operated them. This plate comes with a very large prop, can I assume that this is most likely the prop from a Demon??? its about 10foot tall and if you lay it down its about the 10 foot long too!!!. Black in colour but that could be a later addition and appears laminated wood construction.

Are there any examples in Australia that I could inspect? I have been advised from the owner of the plate that there are possibly (and I mean possibly) more remains in a creek. Whatconstruction type was it? wooden and fabric, tube etc.

thanks for the information so far

cheers

Hi here are a few to start with.

Quite a few bits and pices of Demons remain as you have found but only two whole aircraft as far as I know . The RAAF M at Point Cook have a great example restored in the 1980s and the one being restored by Jack McDonald in Queensland to airworthy condition
