Let's look at DT. The guy had a very large fortune. I have dealt with him many times. The condition of the B-17 he had was at times just horrible. We once made him an offer. He just had to buy the paint and we would paint it, and he said, no I like it like this. This is how they looked in combat. No they didn't. combat veteran B-17's did not have fire bomber orange paint fading through the O.D.!!
Like I said, Everyone startes even. You can't hold money or lack there of against someone. If someone goes to school and graduates from that school, then they should all be trained to the same standard. No one should get passed on because they are wealthy.
There were all walks of life in my flight school, and I feel that no one was treated different, and we all got equal training.
Now this is where the name of the school matters. I didn't go to ER. I had no desire to. I now work with a guy that did go there, I love the fact that he states, well I went to the flight school in Florida and was on a football team and we flew all around the great weather. And our flight school is just the best. Then he asks, what did you do in that little flight school that you went to. And I look him right in the face and tell him, I learned how to become your boss. While he was playing fotball, I was flying. While he was taking a film class, I was flying. While he was going to the baseball game, I was flying.
I take alot of pride in my flight school, because it was a little mom and pop place, and money didn't come first there. If you didn't have money until payday, you flew anyway, and paid them when you could. I learned alot about flying and life from the owners of that school.
Money has no place in sparking an interest in aviation. Most of the bad pilots I know got into aviation just for the moeny.

Chris, I think you are missing the point.

Have a re-read of the last couple of pages - it's not about money or particular people, but what else you need to fly and survive.

Huh? Where can I get an aviation job where you make good coin? All my aviation experiences have COST me money!

Dunno what the possibility of it would be, but would anyone care to invite Mr Cruise to join us fine folks here at WIX? Everything else aside, he seems to be afflicted with the same disease that we all have...a love of old airplanes :P I think another owner/operator the likes of Vlado, Bill, Eric, Jim Beasley (sp?) and others would add so much to the conversations here from a firsthand account. Jack Rousch would seem to be another fantastic addition.

Just my thoughts, now back to your regular programming...

Does Tom Cruise have the 'narrow track' undercarriage mod on his P-51 or has somebody in the PR department been jiggling with height/width ratio of that original image in post 1?

You are looking a bit long in the face Tom. :)

Tom join WIX? Hey, I don't know if Scientology makes you crazy or is what saves you from going crazy? But I do know that WIX has some, how shall we say, individuals of unique outlooks, who can pretty well drive you nuts. We can't do that to a nice guy like Tom. And there is always the chance that he is totally normal and might not fit in with WIX types.

And he's not a T-sipper! Don't you just love them Oakies Bill?

*looks around* wtf is "normal"?

A whole lot of bad pilots, and probably as many good pilots have been lost flying airplanes period! As a whole, sure the P-51 looks the worst (at least it seems to proportionally?) but, then again how many were saved from the scrap heap compared to others?

As a realitive matter, the history of individual training probably provides the best insight to the outcomes in a lot of cases. When I was flight instructing for a living, I always let the situation get to the point where it was appropriate for me to take the controls and teach why I had taken them. As a Captain in an airline.....that is a different story. By the way Randy, you made a point about crew training, and differences....how many single crew airplanes have you been trained in? Point being that with the exception of GA, most people have only learned in equipment that had (not necessarily required) mulitple participants. I tell my F/Os all the time, there are two idiots up front for a reason....hopefully only one is being an idiot at the time!

Doug R. had a very serious piece I believe was here a couple of years ago, which I found to be very straight laced, candid and direct. Safety is not about dollars...it is a mentality. Every minute of every hour an aircraft is aloft, the person flying or monitoring or involved, MUST be an active and responsible participant.

Would be too much to hope that TC or anyone else with a closely watched, captured life, would participate in an open forum where the words or attitudes could be misconstrued. That is an absolute crime. Regardless of any ONE persons belief, the world is a big place. We have had a few dismissed from this board for their extreme beliefs, or attitudes. One can only hope that people like JT, HF, TC, and all the rest look forward to hearing the roar of a Merlin or perhaps a Ranger, and still has their heart flutter. Hopefully they are not listening too closely to the WIX board. Else they could.........

Flame away.......however, tired of the useless bickering so won't respond. Firmly believe that everyone who loves airplanes can make our "love" flourish.

None that required two *pilots*. Interestingly, the two jets I've spent my time in both straddled the line between single-seat responsibility and crew coordination.
