Movie Restorations.

The Battle of Britain and Catch 22 threads have me thinking that it would be great to restore an airplane to its as filmed condition. Take the BofB Hispano Buchon's. With that honkin big nose they really don't look like a Bf 109 to me but painted to look like a BofB example they would look great. Similarly it would be cool to see a B-25 in a Catch 22 scheme. A B-17 restored to Twelve O,Clock high or War Lover schemes would be neat too.
And another thing. I hope that in the future when someone donates a Warbird to the NASM that they keep it in as received condition in order to honor the men who flew it in war and the owners who saved them in peace or pieces as the case may be. It would also be good for the NASM to save a couple of warbirds in civilian guise especially a fire bomber of some type or a PBY in executive style. Some of these aircraft have had important contributions to make long after the guns fell silent.

There's still a couple of Hispanos in Texas still in their BoB movie paint, including the two-seater. It would be great to get one as is and clean it up for display.

Well the Tallichet B-17 is in it's movie paint. Not sure if that counts.

Several of the Corsairs used in the filming of Black Sheep Squadron had their movie paint schemes on for many years after the filming. I particularly remember that ugly-ass purple scheme that was on the POF Corsair from the filming. I don't know if it turned that color due to UV exposure or what, but it was horrible!
Also, most of the Tora birds with the CAF, have their original schemes on too, I believe.

I believe the ex CAF Buchon now with ARCO at Duxford is going to be in its Battle of Britain film markings.

The CASA 2.111s from Battle of Britain stayed in their movie paint for quite a while. Cavanaugh's is close but I think it has new paint, without the Hollywood weathering.
Only a few films that featured WWII warbirds are beloved enough to warrant this treatment. We really don't need to see the POF's P-51A back in its Messerschmitt colors from Iron Eagle III!

Of course the Mustang made quite a good 'Hollywood Messerschmitt' during the war as well, when they couldn't get 109s for filming - something about the Germans still wanting to use them.
B-17 'Sally B' has a cleaned-up version of the Memphis Belle (II) film scheme.
The BAe Mosquito RR299 flew most of it's career in a version of 633 Squadron colours. Bizarrely, BAe decided to return it to the 'HT-E' lettering with D Day stripes after the re-fabric in the mid 1990s.
