There's 3 or 4 AT-28Ds under restoration in Hillsboro, OR.

I saw that airplane two weeks ago...... Is it converted from an A model or did it start off as a Navy T-28B ?

Here is T-28D N285DL. The FAA database says it's owned by Doug Lee of Lafayette, Louisiana. Photo taken by me at the 2006 Cowtown Warbird Roundup.

Cheers!

Ethan,
All T-28D's are re-engined A models. they are almost identical with the exception of the engine and mount. N2496 is a AT-28D-5 (Pictured above) that still has the bullet hole patches in it from Vietnam. The airplane was brought into the US from Laos in the 80's and is painted in the original configuration. It is registered as a Nomad 260. The picture was taken 3 days ago after we finished the annual.

So, along with the re-engineing, they removed the A shaped pillar between front and back cockpit, yes? The "A" models had that.

Not on all of them. The roll over brace was removed on AT-28D's to facilitate the ejection seats and armor plate. Also, the AT-28 had a "B" canopy which is lower than the A.

So, is anyone still flying any unmodded A models?

Didn't they have a 7 cylinder engine and a 2 bladed hollow propeller?
