Dennis, it was wild, first two I was in #2, then #9, last was #16, had a runway prop on that one. My first warbird experiance, like the song goes, a lonely copilot and a long way from home.

no one has yet mentioned 633 or Mosquito Squadron. Yes they pranged a lot, but the sound of multiple merlins taking off!

Also the Best C47 footage on film is in the 1982 Yorkshire Television series Airline. Post WWII Freight and Pax operations in England and Europe. Have it on DVD.

The lake flyover scene in Out of Africa is breathtaking!

High Road to China has some great Stampe flying also, beautiful scenery!

The propwash during that scene must have been pretty rough, especailly in #16!

I assume you refer to the LWT produced six-part mini series. It's British, not American. Great flying in that. I love the big dog fight over the white cliffs, and the low flying just before Moggy is killed. A stunning series.

Dark Blue World has some equally stunning sequences. When the Spitfire takes off from the French feild after picking up the downed pilot, wow, tight flying.

I even always enjoy the brief cameo by the squadron of RAF Mosquitoes in Band of Brothers after the men have landed in Holland. Even though they are CGI, they look and sound cool, and the RAF is remembered at least.

Actually, #9 was that worst. Full aileron right and going hard left.

aside from the b-36 scenes I loved the scene where Stewart sees the B-47 for the first time in the hanger

the night flying after helping the smoke jumpers in always.

I like this scene in Memphis Belle:



Possibly the last great WW II aviation movie with real planes in it. ( " I hope not "...like Jose Jimenez in the Right Stuff ).

Yeager's F-104 take off in The Right Stuff is the best sound I've ever experienced in an aviation film, followed closely by the opening scene in Always.

I love to turn the sound up during the opening of "Always", when you can hear the birds and the crickets...then you just start to sense a very slight engine rumble in the background. Great stuff.

The sound in Dark Blue World is excellent on many scenes too - I particularly remember one scene where a pair of Spits are taking off from their base, towards the camera, and the engine roar is superb - and you hear a nice clunk as each wheel goes into the bay.

Always enjoyed the change in music in Memphis Belle when they finally drop the bombs on that last run - perfectly timed and chosen.

Oh yes, the 'new' Flight of the Phoenix has some superb flying and photography in the first few minutes, all to an excellent choice of music. Worth seeing the film for that alone!

Awfully nice aeroplane piccies available

Hi all
the scramble scene in Reach for the Sky.
From the point where Bader (Kenneth Moore) picks up the phone and shouts 'Squadron Scramble' right through to where the Hurricanes take off.
There's a bloke in the background as Bader walks in his distinct style to his aircraft and this bloke runs to his Hurricane and leaps hurdler style straight up onto the wing of the Hurricane.
Now I've stood behind the hurricane at Old Warden and tried to work out how he did that. I can't even lift my leg that high! So either he was very tall or very fit or both.
I'm fat and 42 so that may have something to do with it!!

The other one is The Dambusters. There's a sequence where the Lancaster drops out of sight below the level of the Derwentwater dam during a training mission--superb.
