Greetings,

I'm sure many of you have heard of the impressive PC air combat sim "IL2 Sturmovik". The FW-190 that has been modelled for IL2 has a rather controversial Revi gunsight. It appears as though the bottom 1/4 of the reticle is blocked by the framing for the armored glass.

Does anyone out there know if this was actually the case? It seems bizarre that the Luftwaffe would put their pilots at a significant disadvantage... especially when it came to setting up deflection shots. I'd appreciate it if anyone with any knowledge of the sight or the aircraft would provide some input.

Anyone here who is familiar with the forum that the games publisher has provided is probably familiar with the Revi controversy. The game's developer is adamant that he has the gunsight and reticle correct while many of the folks who play the game think otherwise. I'd be interested to get some input from folks who have first hand knowledge (or excellent second hand knowledge) of the actual aircraft.

I've included a screenshot of the sight and reticle position below.

Thanks, Goshikisen.

Yeah mate, how excellent is Il-2? Brilliant game!
The 190's are difficult to shoot from sometimes in the game, it's similar in the Ta-152 as well. Having never sat in a 190 cockpit unfortunatly I couldn't comment. The creators went into soo much detail though so I suspect they have got it right.

In the game, the pilot cant move his head/eyesight to align with the gunsight like in real life.

Very true... it'd be useful if you could.

Does anyone know if the sight could be raised or lowered in the actual aircraft? I just find it hard to believe that pilots in combat would have tolerated the sight as depicted in the game.

It would have reduced the accuracy if it was moved wouldn't it, they were synchronised from a fixed spot werent they?

Sorry... meant adjustable on the ground and subsequently synchronised.

As weird as it sounds, its true! Not every Luftwaffa Pilot needed the bottom part of the target screen, mostly because the angle of deflection on shooting an aircraft was at tops, 15-20 degrees.
