Too bad -- I thought it was a worthwhile thread. These are very important and interesting people in Warbird history. Worth noting that it was not a moderator decision -- was at the request of the person who started the thread. I suspect he was unhappy about the thread becoming about drugs and prison rather than about the boys and their toys...

It was indeed the Whittington/ex-Hogan P-51H with a -G prop! Very very cool to see flying. No I have no idea where the prop went, so don't ask. Probably tucked away in one of Don's hangars -- along with lots of other wonderful bits and pieces.

Vlado -- I had been wondering about the fate of that airplane! As it turns out it is till flying, is still owned by the Whittingtons, and is in great shape. Bill brought it to a flyin in Arizona this spring and Doug Fisher has great photos of it there. He posted several over on Scotty Germain's web site.

Wasn't that the prop on the P-51H when it was bellied in at Reno?

No -- that was a regular -H AeroLeaker. The boys brought the airplane back a second time in 1983 after a lengthy rebuild by Skurich, and it had this prop. I've never heard of anybody seeing the 5 blade since that time period, and the airplane currently has a normal -H prop.

Zane -- I don't think the original poster in the deleted thread can complain about a different thread on a similar subject. Also there is no discussion here of anything but the airplanes, so far at least (Be nice, guys and gals!). These were and are remarkable people (yes, in good ways too) with remarkable toys that they put a lot of money and sweat into, and they were willing to share them with the rest of us in ways that some more ethically pure high rollers these days are not. They have a big space in the history of the modern Warbird movement and should not be off limits for dicussion.

JMHO, of course...

No, I'm only familiar with the ones they brought to Reno over the years, plus one or two others. It would be quite a list -- many P-51s, several Bearcats, Corsair, P-63 , a couple of B-17s and on and on...

They functioned essentially as dealers for years -- buying, rebuilding, and reselling.

Surely someone here would have such a list.

I'm pretty sure he still owns what's left of Liberator LB-30 AL557, which, last I heard, was still sitting out in the open at the Downtown Fort Collins (Colorado) airport.
