In the movie, the PBR crew passes the tail of a shot-down B-52D sticking from the river. It's been a while since I've seen it but I remember it looking quite realistic. Anyone know the behind the scenes details of how that scene was shot and if the tail was a fake or not?

I remember the B-52 "Tall Tail" sticking out of the water in the movie, also and I agree it was most likely a mock-up.

Actually the representation of a crashed B-52 in South Vietnam or Cambodia during that time frame (guessing it was supposed to be somewhere between 1968 and 1970 or so) was not very accurate. As far as I know there were no B-52s that were lost in that area. I believe all B-52 losses were over North Vietnam, Thailand, near Guam, over the South China Sea off of South Vietnam and a couple over Laos at the end of 1972.
