I'm not sure what the old C-141 fuselage trainer is being used for, but it's fenced in out at the airport.

It may have been a C-141 Loadmaster Trainer back in the day.

Hanscom AFB has a C-130 fuselage that they use to keep the transient alert folks trained on towing procedures. It is called a Non Flying Article.

That's exactly what it is. What I was wondering is why it was fenced in out at the local airport.

I was at the terminal building a couple of years ago picking up some logbooks and was told the C-141 was supposed to be a clubhouse for an aviation-related group. I don't know if it was EAA or even if the information was correct. Thanks for the shots of the B-47--that used to be the place we changed course during our weekly flights out west. I've never seen it from less than 7,000 feet.

I'm pretty sure it is a M110A2, 8" howitzer. The muzzle brake marks it as the A2.

The insignia on the Sherman is for the 45th infantry from Oklahoma.

When I went through BFE at Altus and asked about the 141 carcass I was told it was an LM trainer from one of the DIed birds where "wing spar cracks" were found or not found depending on what side you are on. I asked why it was struck off, as 141 LMs were still being trained and was told the air-conditioning unit installed a. modified the airframe in a way that made it an unacceptable training device and b. had severely corroded the machine. Could all be bs.

Man, having been in Oklahoma in the winter, the photos remind me of how COLD it can get there. Brad - how did you get the pleasure of being assigned to Altus??

Hi Brad!
Are you TDY or PCS to Altus? . You've got more vintage birds to look at then we did. Only had the B-47 then. I was there from 78-82 in the Aircraft Repair and Reclaimation shop. That was the C-5 hanger at the end of the runway towards US 62. Anyway, great photos Brad! If you have anymore to share, don't hold back! I'd share mine, but, the old Kodak Hawkeye snapshots leave a little to be desired!
Don

The C-141 was supplied for use by the Southwest Technology Center, who have a hangar at the airport. They also use an old T-41A for training.
Brad, there used to be some Army choppers in use as loading aids at the C-17 Cargo Compartment Trainer:
70-16017 Bell AH-1S ex PA NG
71-21004 Bell AH-1S ex PA NG
70-15441 Bell GOH-58A
71-20571 Bell OH-58A
All were last seen in May06. Any idea if they are still there please?
Regards,
Andy Marden

Tom and Don,

I didn't really want to come here...it was quickly coming down to this or go be a sensor operator on UAVs! At least here in Altus I'm still actually flying.

Andy,

All four choppers are still here, within sight of my office. I'll get pictures as soon as I can.
