One question, for anyone: Is the funky blue paint on the Panther for real, or symbolic of something, or what? I've only seen them in the typical Glossy Sea Blue, and a few in light gray.

Do these keep the original type "office"? Are the sims at each cockpit supposed to be fairly accurate to the type they portray? I see an F-8, F-4 and maybe an F-14, what else is there?

I can just see in that first shot of North Island, the colorful, SB2U's TBD's SB4C's of the movie "Dive Bomber" launching off in mass formation take offs!

Taigh you better go into hiding the TSA will be after that film of you taking pics of highly classified areas like LAX with your shoes on and a finger nail file in your pocket. Great photos......see you in about 10 to 20 when you get out.

Did you see the F-8 Crusader on display at all?

The New England Air Museum gave there's back to the Navy a few years ago and it went to the Midway. I'm not sure it's hit the restoration cue yet.

In his photos the VF-111 painted F-8 is the same jet.

How many F-4 Phantoms were there? I see number 104 left side, 201 right side and 102. I think based on backgrounds that 104 and 201 are the same airframe.

Two Phantoms an F-4S and a QF-4N with a different sponsor on each side.

The F-4's were actual aircraft assigned to squadrons on the Midway ( VF-151 & VF-161), the COD was Midways and was retrieved from DM in Tucson and trucked home. If you paid for the restoration and paint you could get what you wanted painted on so they divided the birds to get more involved in acquiring exhibit aircraft. When I left North Island at the end of 2004 one F-4 was being prepped for paint, the F-8 and S-3 were painted and the ship was in but not open yet for public viewing. The squadron I was in ( HC-85 ) donated the H-3 when it was stricken from inventory. A couple of us would go over on weekends and help out along with some reservists that were in on drill weekends but the core was the volunteers that were retired and put in what amounted to full time.
