B-29s used during the Korean War

Mon Jan 19, 2009 10:09 pm

I ran across this photo, and it showed a vertical stabilizer in the hangar.
the number reads 46994. Can anyone put an aircraft with the number? The outfit operated B-29s I believe this was with the 307th BS while they were bombing in Korea back then.

My guess would be 44-69944, the last four is almost visible in the shadow. A Boeing Wichita airplane, will look up some other numbers when I get home.

I knew I'd get the answer here, thanks.
Is there a website that shows the identification of the superforts that was stenciled on the fuselages of these aircraft?

Looks like that B-29 already had 30 missions from WWII with the 73rd. More information, and a photo of it in action here:

Thanks guys, I am at work now (and should be working- needed a WIX- FIX,) and will post a Korean War era photo of a B-29 that has a code stenciled on the fuselage, by I can't read the serial number to clearly. Be back later.
