Aircraft Tug

Tue Mar 29, 2005 6:22 am

I'm rebuilding my WW2 vintage Clarktor 6 aircraft tug. Still quite original including the Chrysler "industrial" 6.

Looking for any interesting paint schemes please...

Will be used to tow the Avenger and the rest of the 'fleet'>>>>

Believe it or not I found mine on ebay. I looked for a few years for one, but there were none for sale. Then a friend told me there was one on ebay. I couldn't believe it. $5000 restored...I was very happy.

I keep watching eBay because I have had people tell me to watch there. The hunt continues...

Dont really need one to pull the 170 around but I'll need one when I get something bigger! Plus they are cool little machines.

I have a color chart that lists all the different colors that they were painted from the factory. Some were yellow, orange, grey...

If you have a freind who works for a State agency you should have them keep an eye out for surplus property as well.

The airport in Wendover was able to get 2 military tugs (Korean/Vietnam era) that pull T-33 or Hawker size planes and then they got a BIG tug - read this "200,000 lb capacity" which hauls KC-135s and 737s around when it is needed.

Each one did need some work but they picked them up for less than $5K if I remember right.
