Re: P-38

BTW the P-38 that was at Camarillo is now in Chino. Steve Hinton flew it gear down a couple weeks ago to go to the owner in the midwest. This I believe was due to the Air Force general forcing the P-82 to go back to the Air Force per some old agreement. The P-82 is at or will be at Wright Patterson soon for restoration. Quite the blow to the CAF as it was prominantly displayed and well taken care of in a hangar. I blieve Steve flew it gear down to minimize the risk of a problem after not having been flown in years.

It's my understanding thatthe P-82 debacle was settled recently in favor of Mr. Frye. I'd welcome any further info of course.

Last time I saw the ex-CAF F-82 (less than a year ago) it was at a Texas warbird restoration facility awaiting a decision of its legal status.

I hope the USAF didn't win...not as long as the NMUSAF's "other" F-82 is rotting outside at Lackland.

The P-82 was moved back to Midland. I don't think the future is bright...........
