Warbird Information Exchange

Heres one for anyone interested in or living close by to
airfields around the Yuma AZ. area.

looking for details on an airstrip owned by Marsh Aviation, built
on the east side of the Yuma city area that was only walking
distance to town.
Its well and truely gone now but 60's sectional charts will show it.

Looked on Paul Freeman's abandoned airfields site but nothing
there unless I missed it...

The strip I'm looking for in paricular was used by
"Imperial Valley crop dusters" - is that a company?
it was located in the vicinity of Yuma prison in 1965.

If you can remember where the prison was back then,
that should be the airstrip.

Do you know where I can obtain charts etc.

When we lived in Yuma for a short time in the late 80s I was told by a native Yuman that there was a duster strip near the prison and that I-8 is more or less where the strip had been. I didn't ever get the exact location ironed out other than that little bit of info.

I went through the fantastic site by Paul Freeman but he
doesn't seem to list the particular one I'm chasing.

He does list the Yuma Aux. strips that Chris flew in and
out of but nothing in the vicinity of the township itself.

I'll check out I-8 on Google Earth and see where it is.

The area in question is where I-8 turns and is oriented in a north/south direction, at least from what the gentleman related to me. I couldn't find a trace of anything when we went to look, but that wouldn't be uncommon for a duster strip.

Nope, I was manager of the Service Department at the Ford dealership. I NEVER had enough time to get away from my desk to watch ops at MCAS. I would "escape" from my office once in a while to test drive a vehicle, and I always turned east so I could see what was shakin' at the Base.

Thanks for confirming what I was told about the duster strip. I believed the guy, but didn't look hard enough for evidence.
