Another great post Mike!
Think the sale of of a couple of 'lake birds' or even the rights to some still in the lake might help raise enough $$$ to get these under cover????

http://www.dvhaa.org/planes.shtml
My favorie quote from the site:
Aircraft are on outdoor display at the Naval Air Station-Joint Reserve Base Willow Grove. The display area is located on U.S. Route 611, just south of the main gate. A small parking lot is available, and select aircraft can be viewed through a chain-link fence.
I can only imagine the condition the ME 262 would be in if it had not been the pattern for the Stormbirds....
Didn't they used to have an Arado on floats as part of this collection?
Anyone know what happend to it?

I think that......

Most of the original Ascher Collection was transfered to the Smithsonian

They did keep the ME262

The Arado & Jill are still with the Smithsonian in storage

The think that the George was actually loaned from the Smithsonian to Champlin and also restored.

As for the Rex ????

Some of these birds carried some of the most ( chosen carefully ) colorfull paint scheme applied to WW2 axis AC through the years

I have great pictures of the collection when it was outdoor.

The floatplane referred to by Warbirdnerd is, I believe, an
Arado AR-196. It is in storage in Pensacola in a brick building.

Hi All,

I'm surprised Mikael hasn't jumped on this one yet (probably hasn't seen it yet ). The Arado 196A-5 at NASM (wrknr 623167) is not the same aircraft that was displayed at Willow Grove. That would be 623183, and yes, it is now at Pensacola as Owen has indicated.

Owen, Mikael's website also suggests that the Arado was damaged during its transport to Florida. Can you supply any details (hopefully nothing too serious)?

The individual of questionable judgement that was driving the truck went under an overpass that was too low. (No it was not a museum
employee.) It's repairable and somewhere I have
pictures of it.

Owen
