I have come across some very weird photos - clearly dated Nov 1954 - Korea.

The photo i came across shows either USMC or USN AD-4 Skyraiders attacking a enemy target.

A airstrike is in progress.
Clearly not a bombing training mission but an airstrike.

This doesnt make sense.

The war stopped in Jun 1953.

I think this is very interesting if it is indeed a airstrike....as history recorded the war finishing over 1.3yr before this photo was taken.

The person taking the photos was a USAF pilot of WW2 and Korea, so he wouldnt of mislabelled his photos in 1954 i feel - so what he has said must be correct.

Anyone else doubt that the US could of bombed in late 1954 North Korean troops in South Korea.. i feel bit far fetched but could of happened in the black pages of history.

Actually, the Korean War is still going. A peace treaty was never signed, just an armistice.

The USAF troops deployed in Korea currently are on war footing all the time.

I've run across some photo's at the National Archives that seem to have an incorrect date on them as well.
Some are just typo's and others are what I think is the date that the photo was entered into the system.

Perhaps the Nov. 54 is when the photo was catalogued.

i'd say that's a safe bet. as randy stated in other words the korean war is still going on, on paper. all it takes is for some g.i. to piss over the border & an international incident will ensue. that region is more of a powder keg now more than ever with kim jong mental illness as that nation's leader.

Hate to burst the bubble - the airstrike image comes from a set of photos taken quite clearly in 1954 - Sept to Nov period. There are over 200 photos in the series. So date is quite correct.

So what was a airstrike being conducted in South Korea at that time is really bizzare.

What makes it really interesting is that the Skyraiders are under a USMC forward air controller from what i could see and these FAC and the USAF photographer seem to be watching a jungle patch - 1km away been bombed... all in 1954.

What makes the photos very unsual is this person has labelled everywhere he went in Korea carefully.. very carefully names and everthing.

He rose to a Lt Col position so he is obviously smart.

And we do heve scuffles today as well. I was in one about fifteen years ago.

a jungle? wtf? No jungle in Korea, bud. There is bamboo, but the climate and the land is more like erm...maybe the Cascades or maybe Vermont. Four strong seasons up and down the peninsula, and lot and lots and lots of valleys and sharp inclines. The DMZ isn't jungle, usually it's hardwood and conifers and some bamboo you run into.


That site mentions the shootdown of a little bird while I was up there--the copilot was killed. It's been claimed they were on a check out flight but they were both from the Nightstalkers. I doubt it was an accident taht they were over the border.

I was stationed in Korea from 1984 to 1986 with the 260th MP company, Camp Carroll near Taegu.
My first week during in processing the NFGs' had a security brief/ welcome to the "Land of the morning Calm".
The briefing was conducted by a full bird Col. and a Brg. General, it was a real eye opener, actually made my hair on the back of my neck stand up.
The North Koreans are always ready to re-invade, they have large 120mm
long range artillary ranged in for the capital Soeul (that's how they spell it there) and Soviet/China made attack bombers and fighter ground attack aircraft that could attack within twenty minutes.
When I was stationed there we were always ready to fight, we always kept our weapons and equipment ready to go.
Any photos or info about airstrikes post 1953 could be correct, there were some recorded encounters with the North Koreans when they had troop movements with supplies and artillary within or close to the DMZ, in violation of the cease fire, these targets were then taken out.
