Well been laying low the last few days. But I need to vent. I noticed the other day a few things where missing from my house where I live at. The more I checked things the more I realized things went missing. I am not sure when it happened but I was robbed. A few noted things they took was my D80 camera, $400 bucks I had saved in my dresser, and some of my family members things.  All gone! Odd thing they didnt take my computer! Also thankful they did not take my nikkon lens but now I dont have a body to use it on anyway. Feeling very po'd. I guess a lesson learned and to always remember to keep your valuables in a save and hidden place to prevent such things like this from happening. Sometimes I hate this world! :(

Nathan the robbed. :x :?

happened to me in 2005

lost $12,500 in all kind of things.

thru sheer luck all the criminals were caught by police 3 weeks later by miracle of driving, informants, information and stupidty.

didnt get all back but most was insuranced.

having worked in law it was not good to see the other side too.

crime is not well known - unless your affected NO ONE i repeat NO ONE cares about your situation or how you feel. ONLYT when it happens to them will they know.

i hope your stuff can be found .. could be unlikely but never know.

Sorry to hear about your loss. After our 3rd burglary in 4 years, we got an alarm system (Brinks) and a gun safe large enough to store all my camera equipment, firearms, and laptops. Don't have to worry about the gunsafe being taken as it is bolted to the slab thru the bottom of the gun safe.

Been there, done that! On Christmas Eve to boot!!! Come home from late candle-light service with a sleeping child on my shoulder to find the house ransacked. NOT a Merry Christmas. I was angry for years, but eventually put it behind me for the most part. It was stuff, mostly replaceable, partially insured(not much), but I have to think, if I had walked in a few minutes before and had cornered the thug in the house....things could have been very ugly. The police said it was probably some crackhead out to score a few bucks for his next hit, and as such are a dangerous, unpredictable lot.

This was a week after having our car, parked in front of the house, smashed by a stolen car which then sped off. They eventually caught that guy in Detroit, wanted for Murder, glad he kept going!

Nathan,
You may feel the need to vent, but can't you find a better place to do it?
This is remotely related to warbirds in what way?

Sorry to hear that Nathan..just sucks to have people do that. I know it's a cliche, but it just makes you feel violated. I had my vehicle cleaned out in a parking lot one night some 20-odd years ago. Fortunately it was a beat-up old pickup and they didn't get anything of much value, but I was still pissed.

Any leads on who might have done it? You said stuff was stolen from the place where you live..got any roomates who may have been after a quick buck?

Nathan contibutes a tremendous amount to this board. I don't think it's a crime that he's letting us know what happenend to him on the most visible part of the message board. In fact, it might help others to be more vigilant to a break in in their homes...

We had a few years ago some punk kids that were breaking into cars and taking little nick and nacks ............and were bragging about it . The police never could prove it. ............Any way Me and My neighbor decitied that the only way to catch a Rat was to set a Trap or Traps ! in our cases.
We both had project cars at the time . Borh were none drivers We placed Good ol Fashion Victors Rat traps in places that where little fingers would surely go  and Wal la a couple nights later we were both awake to the Yelling of one really Caught two legged Rat . Oh we were going to be Sued and all of that Apple sauce . but when it was shown that their were signs posted Warning Rats Will be trapped on our cars Nothing was done. the Police officer later commeted that more Rats needed to be caught that way !

Awesome! That's a splendid idea!

Sorry to hear about your loss Nathan. Time to get on the Dave Ramsey plan and have some emergency funds for such a time as this...
I worry some about break-ins. It happened to my family several years back and a lot of my mom's valuables and some guns my dad owned were stolen. My room was pretty messy at the time and as far as I know NOTHING was gone. Not likely to be the case next time.

nathan i feel your pain. being broken into & robbed in your home is like being raped or violated. while i'm not exactly money bags i come from a wealthy family. in my high school years my parent's house was robbed 6 times & 4 attempts, 1 while we were home sleeping!! their was 1 other job done a few years prior to these others, & the s.o.b. stole some significant stuff of my dad's from ww 2, 1 recovered. i know what it's like to come home to your house in a heap after being ransacked, thats the worst. do you have a maid, or cleaning service?? kid brother or sister who might have a drug problem?? does somebody outside your family have a key to the house?? heck my best childhood friend stole my family blind until my brother baited a trap & caught him. definetly make a police report, it's a step that might help in getting your stuff back, + you'll need the report for insurance purposes. good luck!! tom p,s. remember, these are tough times & alot of people are stealing & robbing like never before!! be careful & alert!!

Thanks everyone for the understanding. I will press on and I am hopeful the scum will be caught and my stuff returned. Its been reported and I have asked around if anyone saw anything. Will let all know if anything develops.

I do keep a good head on me when it comes to locking the house I always lock the doors when I am gone. But thankfully no one got hurt. That is afterall the important thing. Bummed out still but pressing forward.

I was broken into several years ago and lost several thousands in tools, 4 guns, DVDs, electronics. The police did not even want to come out, just take a report over the phone. I finally get them to come out, and the attitude was, well, what do you want us to do about it. I then called my insurance agent, and got the story of, yes, you can file a claim, which will be paid, but then your rates will go up, and if you file another claim, you will be cancelled.

So, I got my house broke into, cops could care less, and the insurance is worthless, unless your house burns down.

Nathan...I feel your pain. BTDT.
Strange thing about my two thefts. (I'm gonna' tell it anyway!)

Theft #1:
Apartment broken into. Among other things, they took my Colt Commander Lightweight. A few weeks later, Arlington county, VA police call and ask if the serial number of my gun was XXXXX. I tell them yes. They say they've recovered it. I get it back.
Theft #2:
Maintenance man at the apartment complex we were living in (not the same as the first) took the same gun off my nightstand. A few months later, Arlington police call and ask if the serial # is XXXXX. I tell them yes. They say the gun is in the possession of the FBI in New Orleans as it was used in a bank robbery in Arkansas. They also tell me that it's about to be destroyed.
Luckily, my best bud's father is liaison between Arlington police and FBI. He calls FBI and prevents the gun from being destroyed. An FBI agent delivers the gun to my house.
My point being...I think I could throw this gun in the river and it would find it's way back to me.

Mudge the fortunate :D
