U.S.NAVY CONFISCATION POLICY • INDUSTRY ALERT • I have sent each of my elected representatives the following letter. I urge every concerned individual to do the same: I would like to bring to your attention a practice by the U.S. Navy which I strongly believe serves no useful purpose and heavily penalizes those rare individuals who have both the dedication and the means to recover and restore WWII aircraft. In one case a Princeton, MN man retrieved a crashed Navy Corsair which had lain abandoned in a NC swamp for 49 years. After having devoted 12 years restoring the aircraft he was advised by the Naval; Inventory Control Office that he would face legal action if he did not return the aircraft to the Navy at his expense. A Navy lawyer has stated that she has "a stack of cases" against these "airplane pirates." The Navy has no need for these wrecks. This "dog in the manger" policy clutters the overburdened legal system with frivolous suits. I submit that the Navy is overstaffed and over budgeted when time and effort is so spent. • Contact Dave B.
