A Note From Bill Greenwood On The Spitfire

Fri Mar 13, 2009 11:44 pm

Just got this email from Bill...........................
Hi Jack,
If you want to pass along these facts, since I can't do it directly, it is fine.
Ray and his shop in Ft.Collins have maintained my Spitfire as long as I have owned it. In fact Ray even worked on it in Windsor, Ontario for Don Plumb two owners before me. By the way despite what D17, whoever he is, wrote, his friend did not work for me or for Ray. I don't see how I owed a complete stranger a ride, especially for free. The Hurricane came to Ray's shop about 10 years ago, and was restored right there beside my plane. We all thought it was great to have it flying again, and Ray and I in particular know what Hurricanes did when faced with Hitler and things looked pretty grim in that summer of 1940. There is no question a Spit, especially with it's ultimate development went farther than the Hurricane, but that does not negate in anyway the service done by both back then.
Ray's shop was the natural place for the repair for both planes. I paid for the truck and did not charge Lone Star for a share of that cost for the Hurricane wing that was brought back on the same truck as my plane. transport. According to Ray, it really was a wash as for as costs, because the guys from Lone Star were very helpful to Ray and Tim loading my plane also. There may be legal matters to come, but at least at that time all involved were trying to do the best for both planes. And yeah it still hurts a lot, I am however very thankful that no people were hurt. I hope they will fly again. I value the chance I had last Fall to fly Ed Russel's Spit in Canada.

Good Riddance

YEAH,
Based on what was written here, it's a good thing we got rid of Bill. What a non-team playing, selfish jerk. I can see that things here would have gone down hill if he had stayed and been posting on WIX.

Bill, I'm sorry, I'm just a real sarcastic SOB. Good on you for being helpful in what was a bad situation all around. I hope the kindness was amply reciprocated. Hope we get to meet again.

Best Regards,
John K. Seidts

Forgotten Fields,

I was just about to smack you one for attacking someone who cannot defend himself, but the instant I saw the world "sarcastic" my mood changed. Good one, you had me going.

No worries mate.

Cheers,

David

Thank you Jack! And thanks to Bill as well.....

For a vast number of reasons, tonight is the night that the well empties....

Some people obviously think that by placing more posts or more opinions or more....that they have the only truths that exist......

Many people on this site have been wrong at least once in their life, and many more than that....I lost count so many years ago.....

Whether Scott intended this to be the only spot people wanted to post, or the only place people like me wanted to attend, I have no idea.....But I would like to say this....

We have had way too many political opinions and beliefs for way too long...

Simply....

1. If you have an opinion, then claim it as your own, not a fact!
2. Remember that your opinion is not a fact!
3. Let's hope that people who really have money and time invested in this world let us have a glimmer of the realities...
4. Let's not forget the MORE than opinionated types who have been banned(and absolutely deserved to be!), who still have information we want, need, and hope for!

Last is a plea to Scott, and mods....

When you make the best and correct decisions for the board, can you make a special category? For example, could Bill post updates on his airplane, and they get posted by way of a moderator, so that we all know what is happening there? I am sure that there are a lot more people that want to know what is happening.

NOT asking for a reinstatement....but perhaps a restricted poster category with moderator approval for data dump?

This information exchange has for many years been a great source of education. Let's hope that tradition continues!

Hey Dave H,

You have some valid points there, but as for Bill getting semi-privileges back, as much as I'd like to see him back, I think it would make things awkward here on WIX. There are a lot of haters and supporters on here and it would probably just lead to more unprofessional dialogue.

I don't see anything wrong with close friends of Bill's to update us all when things occur.

Cheers,

David

Jack,

Thanks for posting the update. I hope that bird, with Bill at the controls, and the Hurricane are both back up in the air sooner than expected!
FYI, I'm NOT one of the haters and from PMs consider him a friend.

Thank you Jack for sharing and best regards to Bill :P

As has just been shown, it's perfectly possible for Bill to give us an update on the situation.

I'm sure all WIX members wish Bill the best of luck with getting his Spitfire back in the air, as we do Lone Star with their Hurricane - I certainly do.

What? He has the right to do whatever he wants.

Thank you Jack for the update from Bill. I hope everything works out well for both airplanes, & all involved.

Yes, and since he is not a member here, we can all be safe in our glass houses...

Dave nice idea.

Dave, nice idea. I for one would like to know how things are going.

Policy is policy...
but I still feel that we are missing lots of information by this ban.
Next to Peter and a few others on this board, Bill had a great deal of information in regards to Spits.
And it was something I could directly relate to as I and others in Colorado had seen him fly at local events.

It is too bad that a "ignore" feature couldn't be developed... so people could ignore those that offend them... and we could get past this nonsense.
It is a #### shame.

Jack, thank you again for the update.

Thanks Bill and Jack. From all of us who dream of flying in a warbird!

I participate on a message board with fellow pilots from work and it has an ignore feature. Very handy. I know it doesn't matter, but I enjoyed Bill's information.

For what it's worth my time spent on wix has dropped enormously since Bill was banned, and Gary Austin has gone on walkabout.
Just not many thought provoking/ interesting threads anymore it seems.
