Awesome effect with the car driving through. Great shot man.

Nathan,

Did you use a tripod or some other form of firm support? (If so, please disregard all of the following)

With the work I did in the past with film cameras, a solid tripod/support was essential to eliminate body movement due to the long exposure time. Also helped with adjusting focus and/or shutter speed.

Yep..I use a tripod for my night shots. I am planning to weigh down the tripod with maybe a bag of marbles or bee-bee pellets. Anything to keep it rock steady against the wind or me bumping it! :)

You can avoid bumping it by using the self timer and taking your mitts off. However you are on your own with your wind problem. Arf arf...

Hey James? Is that you typing or your dog? ;)

I hope all is well with you and yours down in Melbourne.

Cheers,

I use a remote so I really dont touch the camera and tripod. I find blocking the wind with your body also helps! Not that any wind is a problem. The night I went out it was alittle windy but I kept checking for vibration and didnt really notice any. Glad to have my camera back! :?

If your camera bag is heavy enough, I know mine is, hang it from the tripod. Most good pods have that little hook underneath just for that. Night shooting is a different art-form.

what are your settings when taking this shot?

I have not taken night shots yet, and am going to shortly. I have D40, which I just got a few months ago and love it.

Thanks!
