Warbird Information Exchange

We (mainly me) at FPL are working on an official history of TBMs that came through NB and neighbouring provinces during the 1958 to present spray period. We hope to have it up on the Web by spring. We are concentrating on the FPL - New Brunswick portion of the spray period, using many pix from our files and from elsewhere. Some pre- and most post-spray history we are leaving to the Warbirds site, although we plan to link to each Avenger listed. We will be dealing with 86 Avengers (as a rough count), including several that do not have a listing in Warbirds. Stay tuned for an official announcement in the spring.

Waw, 86 Avenger!!! I counted about 120 Avenger in US tanker service, I saw a lot transferred in Canada, but I did not realise that so many had moved there!!!
I'm waiting for reading your work.

The number 86 includes US avengers also, and many that visited just once to spray, even one that did not spray at all but was used for parts. Of course, many were owned by Canadian companies.

Those are great pictures of TBM N9590Z. That is the aircraft that The Collings Foundation have converted back to "original" configuration. We would be interested in any other photos of that aircraft that you come across.

Stay tuned for FPL's TBM Avenger history, coming soon (I hope). We have donated the files to the Atlantic Canada Aviation Museum near Halifax, NS, but they have undergone a complete regeneration of their site to a new volunteer Webmaster, and there have been many delays.

Can you tell me what kind shape she is in, still a tanker or any restoration work? Did you take any photos?

If you go to the home page of the WIX site and click on the Explore an Avenger section you can see for yourself. As it happens I also worked on her restoration with Nate Mayo of Bolton, MA for a number of years. My project was to rebuild the left center section trailing edge which had been smashed by the left main gear folding straight back in the crash during the delivery flight back in the late 1980s. Also there is a modeler's book with lots of photos of that Avenger. One of the things I found during the restoration was the spring loaded device that connected the center section flaps with the outer section flaps had been built backwards or reversed from the blue prints. (The center section flaps rely on this connection to be extended but retract with springs.) Maybe it was a RH part on the LH section but in any case it could not work as needed and an entirely new one was built, tested and installed but never painted. It is featured prominently in one of the detail photos in the modelers book and I wonder if some scale modeler ever duplicated that detail.
