I'm well aware that this thread has nothing to do with warbirds, and the good folks who run this site and moderate this site will move this to the appropriate location soon enough, but I personally think this thread needs to be seen here first before it's moved.

Not only the US, but several other countries are suffering from a terrible recession that could possibly turn into a depression. I'm seeing it happen every day. I'm having good friends losing jobs, houses, etc. and it's getting worse everyday. I'm feeling it as well, I'm self employed so I get get what I give, but many people I know are suffering terribly. I'm fine, but I'm wondering who here on WIX are feeling the pain of this recession? I ask because I care. I have now become a family member of this crazy website and I have become close, only in posts and PM's, with several members here. I have only met one member in person (Paul, T-33driver) and he was enough for me to understand that most all members here are worth helping in anyway we all can.

The bottom line of this thread is to "respectfully" ask who here is feeling the pain of the current recession and who needs help. I have no wife, no family per say, so I have much less to worry about, but I would guess there are a few here who have much more going on. I would hope that WIX as a membership of friends and family would step up now, more than any other time, and lend a helping hand to anyone here who is in need of help. I'm here, I may not post as much as I used to ( only because I still have to learn patience and to calm down .. haha) but I'm always here for anyone who needs just to talk and ask for advice. I may not have all the answers, but I'm a great listener. We as WIX members need not have to give financially to a member in need, but you would be amazed how we as WIX members can dramatically change and support a fellow member just by being there to listen.

I hope you all can understand this post and support this post. I'm seeing too many good people suffer too much lately. My already too emotional heart is breaking everyday.

Sorry for the post in the wrong location. Maybe my dad would be proud of me for this one.

God bless all of you who are going through tough times right now, your not alone, you never will be while your a part of WIX .... count on it!

Mark

Although posted in the wrong area.....I believe Hellcat is dead on track with his observations. I'm sure the economic impact has yet to fully smash down on the warbird community, as it is a "Luxury" for most of us to go places and do things we enjoy. That is why I posted the discount to Fantasy of Flight, every bit helps. Airshows are going to be hit harder and harder as folks tighten their belts. As an Architectural Illustrator in Florida, I have been feeling this downturn for 10 months. I have watched clients downsize and fold. I've burned through my savings, sold a car for 1/2 it's value and gone deeper into debt. The last month and a half, I have slowly, bit by bit seen a slight growth in work......as long as this positive direction continues, I may have seen the bottom of the pit and am on the way out, but I'm not holding my breath. Taxes are due next month......yeah right! Kinda bummed at the moment!

My aircraft painting business is just now 2 years old. Last year I was as much as 6 months backloged with work. In November of 08 the work and the phone calls ceased. I now have just one plane in the hanger and a couple more on the way.

I think we are all in for a time of higher stress! I am glad for the occasional good laugh this site generates.

Thanks Mark
I hadn't seen that particular site before. I have been through a few "slumps", as I've been doing this gig for 25 years. It hurts when you have to pester clients, who you have been doing business with for many years, to please pay their bills. You know they are hurting and down-sizing, but when it is out of your pocket, it is that much harder to press for payment. But the state and Feds want theirs even if you don't get paid! I've been underbidding jobs for months just to get work in an have something to work on and have some cash flow. NOT a good industry to be in at the moment. But if folks do have money, now IS the time to build. Material costs are down, contractors are aggressively low-balling (be careful of the fine print!), and even architects are working for less (if they are working at all). Florida's market had overheated, it's now cold and dead, it's time to come out of the icebox! The money end of things is still the big problem. Banks are NOT lending.

Locally, Cessna aircraft is shedding 4,000 jobs out of 11,000 they employ. Beech aircraft layoffs are 2,000 and counting. Not a good time to be in aerospace when the politicians denounced the corporate executives flying in business jets, when business jet manufacturing employees the rank and file workers of the middle, or middle lower class. That bandwagon led to a whole lot of order cancellations. Long term in means a further erosion of our industrial base.

I think it really hurts the museums; as it is impossible to ask for money when there is so much scrutiny about budgets; because local and state gov'ts can't pay the bills.

I would say "tools not included" as well! Nice Bike, I'm sure it hurts to let it go, and in the current economy, for a good deal less of what it's worth! :(
