This one was built back up from an old wreck. Will be the first time it has flown in many years.

That A-20 from what seems like a hundred years ago when Willy Farah owned it:

This was at the Holloman AFB open house about 1978.

Great pics!

So is the plan to put the A-20 back into full military configuration, complete with guns, turret, and bombay? That'd be awsome!

I never realized the aircraft was a J model..I assume she acquired a G nose during her postwar mods?

The critical structural difference is the turreted versions had the fuselage widened in that area to take the turret ring, I understand, whereas the flexibly-mounted gun versions had a straight longeron lines in that area. I don't think the nose bulkheads changed at all.

I think you're right. Like the B-25J, I assumed the "bomber" and "gunship" noses could be swapped fairly easily. The pics seem to show the turret ring still in place..should make intalling the turret much easier.

The preference for an RAAF example would be the Douglas Boston, with the two flexibly-mounted guns. I think they're going with the turret because they have to, not because that's what they want.

Interesting..I didn't realize the RAAF didn't operate late-model (turreted) Bostons.

Howdy All

The RAAF did operate a number of A-20G's aswell, but not for long !
A Japanese attack wiped several out
