In honor of my new aviation hero, I have created a special t-shirt design to pay tribute to his flying spirit. A true pioneer, he was the first to go where no bat has gone before...

Image

It's available in my gift shop at http://www.fritzthefox.com, or on cafepress and zazzle.

I've been thinking about making it a two-sided shirt, with "You can fly" on the front, and "if you want to" on the back. On the front I could feature an illustration of spacebat on a little crutch looking longingly at the shuttle and gantry in the distance. The image above could be on the back. (Some naturalist interviewed about the occurrence was of the opinion that space bat had an injured wing, which is why the crutch)

I dunno, though. Maybe that's overkill. What do you guys think? Any thoughts?

(For the perplexed who have no idea what I am going on about, here's an informative link: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/shuttlemissions/sts119/launchbat.html )

That's hilarious / great! Second idea sounds good, too.

Thought it was part of the rabid transit system!

Nice graphic, though isn't the external Fuel tank more of a primer orange/red?
Love teh look on the bat's face

Local news reported Bat-stronaut still hanging on when shuttle cleared the tower.
Needless to say shuttle Endeavour has been nicknamed the Batmobile by some already.

OMG, Matt, I'd never HEARD of the bat bombers before. That was hilarious (or disturbing, if you really like bats). That sounded more like a fiendish plot by the Joker than real history LOL

It must be much easier to get a grant for defense research projects than for art :)

I doubt I can find the information in the piles of stuff, but I have some engineering sketches of the containers the bats were housed in. It was a pretty elaborate scheme. Here's a nice synopsis, including the accidental bat-torching of some AAF buildings.
